Wow, I'll never do that again...

That is one of many issues we run into with having a country bigger than the US with a population smaller than California.
 
I have shipped and mailed many times via USPS with no problems other than slow delivery. However the USPS flat rate boxes are double the cost to Canada, being considered "International". There is a bit of paperwork involved though.

Agree, and after I tried shipping from Vancouver I decided that it makes sense given the differences in scale between the two postal services.

The customs form is pretty quick and painless at least for LP mailers. Takes about 1 minute extra to fill it out on the way to the post office line.
