X-101-C Phono Section Is Squealing Badly

    It worked perfectly fine last night for the hour that I was using it.

    Today it is passing no audio from the turntable from either phono 1 or 2. It is only making that awful noise.

    The first thing I did was swapped out the tubes with a good set. It made no difference.

    The other channels still work normally.

    I’m looking under the hood, and there are no obvious signs of trouble. Everything appears normal.

    I cleaned the switches, and it is back to normal. I’m glad it was something easy. Whew!!!

    Glad you found it! I was going to suggest just what you did. I have an X-101-C too and as part of the restoration I had to clean the function switches plus the slide switches. It had sat for a long time in a very humid environment.

    Thanks. Me too! I had cleaned all of the switches and pots about 6 months ago at the time of the rebuild, and thought that it was going to be a much bigger problem.
