Yamaha CR-2020 Help!

Well after some more testing of the 1020 the power switch is bad and is always on. So what do you think I should do? Use parts from the 2020 to fix the 1020 or use parts from the 1020 to fix the 2020?

Don't give up yet...Avionic will have more good advice.

You can also ask the forum admin to move this thread to the Yamaha forum, it may get more views from other Yamaha folks. You have two great receivers, it should be possible to get both working.

For now get and extension cord with switched outlets for the CR-1020. Wouldn't try using the 1020's power supply boards in the 2020 quite yet. Need to figure out whats drawing so much current through that resistor. If you pop in the 1020's boards it could burn those as well.

Right now, I'm not convinced that the " Root cause " of your problem is on the power supply boards. I could be. But we need to check a couple other things first.

Those power switches are usually available from the "parts pirates" on the bay.

Alright I will use a switched cord for now. Let me know anything else you need to troubleshoot both receivers. I didn't find a user named "parts pirates" and the only thing I did find was a power switch for a cr-820.

820 won't work."parts pirates" is a term I use for everybody parting out vintage gear on ebay.:D There prices are hiway robberie. Just have to keep and eye out for a switch from a CR-1020 or 2020. There maybe others. But I know a 620 and 820 won't cut the muster. There push button switches rather than lever switches.

Come to think of it and CA-800, 1000 ,1010 or 2010 may also be compatable.

Ah I see. Alright I'll be on the lookout for a switch. Any advice to how to fix the not working channel? I don't have the 1020 yet but I'm going to pick it up next week.

Post a good clear photo of the top of the power supply board. ( board with the relay on it) I need to be able to clearly see all the small caps orientation on the board. As well as there physical condition.

If you need other pictures let me know.

Have you replaced any caps on this board or any other boards ?

Need a clear close up of this area of the power supply board. 3 pins should be marked +25,-25 and E.

Yes I have a multimeter. While I was taking the picture I found a white and red cable that were disconnected.

Just guessing that the red and white wires may possibly go to the tuner dial lamp. Look for a pin on the power supply board labeled DL . Should be right next to the +25 pin .(pin with two brown wires) Then right next to the DL pin is a pin labeled E. Its these two pins that the dial lamp wires are suppose to be fastened to. However...This is not your +/- 25vdc burning resistor issue.

The -25 pin looks kind of funky (pin with two violet wires). I can't tell if its just a big blob of solder on there or what? If either of the + or - 25 volt pins are shorted to ground. Now that could cause the resistor to over heat.

Didn't see the last part of your reply. The wires are just poorly soldered in place. I'll check to see if they are shorted.

Well it doesn't look like it could short. But the wires are loosely wound around the post and soldered in with a big gob of solder.

With power disconnected. Measure the resistance Between +25 pin and E(ground). Then the resistance between -25 and E.

Probably wouldn't hurt to tidy up that connection.

Do you know how to check transistors with your multimeter ?
