Recently acquired a R8 receiver.Amp section works fine.
The tuner section has some issues.Cannot tune in any FM or Am stations
at all.Antenna hooked up, but no luck. When I try to tune down or up,the
display doesn't really change at all.Has anyone had any issues with tuner
problems on this or any other R-5 through R-9 receivers?

Does the display just stay at one frequency or does it go up scale and down scale? First thing I'd be checking is the power supply voltages to the tuner.

Hi Avonic,
I was reading your reply. The scale does go up or down, but it really never
goes to a normal station if you know what mean ( like 99.7...92.1)When
trying to switch between Am or FM, there is no change on the display.

A lot of digital going on in this unit. Do you have a R8 service manual ?

Morning Avonic,
Going through my serv manuals,I found one for my R-9.
Would this one get me in the ball park on trying to work on the R8?

I don't know. Maybe, maybe not .I don't work on the R series very often.

you may need one of thesehttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/INTEGRATO-LC7210-1-PEZZO-/291404786678?hash=item43d9142bf6

This chip is known to break down over time. I have an R-9 and get intermittant tuner drop out like you. The signal meter goes dark and no more radio. It gets better once cooled down and works fine.

You will likely want to change the super cap for the station pre-set memory while you are in there.

here is the thread that discusses both issues. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2359482/yamaha-receiver-memory-problem

PS
I would love an R-9 service manual. Pretty please.

E-mail Norman and tell him what you need. He has a HiQ pdf
probably around $13.00-14.00
