Thanks for the follow up on this. Might not need to swap that new battery for 20 years but it will be straight forward when needed.

I decided to mount a remote battery holder on the other side of the chassis for convenience. That way the next owner won't have to go through what I did.

I know this is a zombie thread, but I thought I’d add my experience.

I acquired a T-7 tuner recently, and the memory wouldn’t stay. I found this thread, and replaced the battery with an 1100mAhr 1.2v
Nicad from batteries plus bulbs (no affiliation). They do welding on their batteries, so I had them weld the tabs on each end and just soldered
It right in place of the old one. Works perfectly!

I just thought I’d share my solution.
