picked up a small antennae today and still nothing, cant reach a single station am or fm

its 100 percent static

any ideas of what could be the problem, fixable?

Thanks!

There are only 3 things I can think of that might affect both AM and FM:
1. Power supply.
2. Varactor control voltage that tunes in stations.
3. The microprocessor..
A cracked pc board could cause this problem.

so I had to peak inside, things look ok...

so I figured as long as it is dead, I will start turning adjustment do hickeys

well, it works now!

tweaking the adjusters inside the tin can cover, very gently started bring in sound, i continued till I got the highest readings on the meter on the lcd...sounds pretty good, no static...could be better and more stations, but my normal ones come in and sound fine

not getting real strong readings on the meter, but my house does suck for reception

at least it works now

Im sure there is voodoo in those knobs, but I have decent sounding fm now

any tips on setting it better, or just leave it as is and consider myself lucky?

Unencumbered by the thought process, you got it working! Consider yourself very luck, you could have screwed it up worse than it was. I know it didn't work when you started but you could have made it very difficult for a tech to align it. So what it needs is an alignment, you should take it to a qualified tech with rf experience.
