I have heard nothing but raves about this band's shows.
Awesome show, but down a notch from Devil Makes Three. Too much talk from Adam Granduciel.

Cold War Kids - What an excellent show! Hard to peg what genre these guys are but it was good. I'd say old school Genesis?

Paul McCartney at Prudential Center in September, Montclair Orchestra (Met Opera, NY Philharmonic, NJ Symphony, Julliard members with some pro locals) in November and last week.

Catch these guys if you can! They don't do it full time, they have day jobs.
Been to a few local shows lately but last night's was a standout. It was pretty much a house party, the venue is an arts center. An old, small, stand alone house in Takoma Park, MD. The cover is whatever you decide to throw in the basket. Beers are in the fridge or the cooler on the floor.
OK, the band was The Messthetics. They are the rhythm section from local punk gods Fugazi along with guitarist Anthony Pirog. I have been following Pirog around the last couple years with other bands and projects. He has been in roots bands mostly, paying homage to other local Telecaster ax men like Gatton and Buchanan. Listening to him in the other bands, you had the feeling he just wanted to let it hang out. Well, he does with these guys. This song changes pace a few times, about 2:20 turns into a different tune altogether.
Recently visited Kimmel Center to see and hear Phildelphia Orchestra playing Messiah by Handel. Orchestra was directed by young conductor Cristian Macelaru. Generally nice performance. Strings, choir and lead soprano were excellent. Though tenor (Nicholas Phan) was NOT up to the task. Good that his participation was shortest amount four solists.

In this age of high ticket prices the Four Freshmen concert at Clover S.C. ( near Charlotte ) on Jan. 11 was an incredible bargain. My brother and I sat 6 rows from the stage and the tickets were $15 each. CD's and LP's were on sale after the show and we met the group and had them autograph an LP cover.

Most recent was Melvins last summer in Fargo. It was kind of a bummer because they really only played a cover of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and stuff off the recent double album. It was very short and businesslike. Play for an hour and fifteen and out. No real crowd interaction or anything. I was disappointed.
Before that was Pig Destroyer in Minneapolis. My GF stated; "That was, by far, the loudest show I have ever been to."
