Zenith Transoceanic Royal 3000-1 weird issue...

Hi,
My Zenith Transoceanic works very nice on any band = AM / FM / Shortwave etc..

Sounds great for about 5-8 minutes.
Then the volume slowly fades out even while turning the volume all the way up until there is no sound at all.
You can hear the radio station come in clearly but the volume slowly disappears into silence.
Let it rest for 10 minutes = works fine then same issue happens again.

I do not have the optional battery pack only a 120v electric power supply.
My only guess is the power supply is shot. The human that owned this before me wired (rigged ) a 120v power supply. It isn't the original power cord

Is this something a rookie radio repairman like me can fix without any soldering etc...?

Thanks in advance!

If you suspect the power supply, you could make your own. I made one from a 9v wall wort I picked up at a Goodwill for $.50. Cut off the random connector and solder on a 3/32 mono plug (available at Radio Shack). Make sure to make the tip the negative.
