Professional assessment of 50 Amplifiers

Cool post! Always interesting to read reviews of vintage gear.

Wonder what the Sony TA-5650 VFET amp showed for results... do you mind ?

Thanks! :)

I hope we keep getting these a couple at a time. Makes coming back to look an interesting trip. There are a few that I am looking forward to. Thanks for posting these.

Well, I haven't been asked to post any of the Sansui amp reviews (yeah I know - you already know they're good ), so I'll post the 3 reviews - this IS the Sansui forum after all...

And to EW - I should think amps this old will always be a PITA to repair :D I would be surprised if Sansui thought they would last this long - but they hadn't heard of you then had they? :thmbsp:

John,

Could you post the Sony TA-3650. I'm curious if the difference between the VFET (5650) v. non-VFET was apparent in the review.

Thanks,
Ray

Hi Ray,

Ok here it is... The reviewers don't seem happy with the IM performance, and a few other things which apparently precluded a recommendation, shame - very nice looking amp - but it should have been better for £190.

Still checking. But I'll give you a hint, the Lux and Amcron reviews would be great to see. Thanks John. It is not often we find lots of period reviews.

Many thanks for taking the time to scan and post those Yammie and all the other assessments Hyperion! Great reads.:thmbsp:

OK Blue Shadow & totem,

What I like about the reviews is they are unbiassed - they aren't trying to sell you one - they just want to give you a critical assessment of the equipment, the actual tests being in some cases, really harsh.

Here they are - enjoy !
