Black Faced g771

Yeah, but the 771 is about 45 wpc. :D

Wonder which model it is??

The G-771 is a black face G-7700 which is a G-series amp from the late 70s early 80s. Like 1979 or 1980.

The Sansui Model 771 is a early 70s Sansui receiver from like 1972 or 1973.

To help the OP with finding some speakers, look for some Advents or JBLs on your local Craigslist.

I know, but which model is the OP referring to? I have seen a 661 called a G-661 before. :boring:

Nice receiver

I acquired a Sansui 771 in 1976. It was advertised in Canada as 38 watts RMS per channel (20 to 20kHz) with 0.5% thd. In the United Stated it was 40 watts under the same conditions (possibly 45 watts at 1kHz).

I cannot say or recommend specific speakers for it, but I can say the the sound of this unit with any of the speakers I tried it with at the time was what I would qualify as solid throughout the audible spectrum. With this Sansui I used various popular speakers of the time such as EPI 100 and 120, Large Advent, Genesis (borrowed to compare with the Advent) and few others all with excellent results, but remember, this is in 1976.

The power came easily and the bass was amazing for such a low power unit. The mid and high were very smooth. I would also describe the sound as full and warmish. Because of the above characteristics, I would be inclined to look for a neutral sounding speaker that would not overemphasize the bass, unless that is what you like.

To me, this Sansui is a keeper and I should not have sold it...I will stop now because I am getting sadder by the minute...:tears:

Good luck in finding speakers for it and happy listening hours once you do.

Richard

He's referring to the 45wpc Model 771 sansui from the early 70s. Says it in the first post.

But the thread title says black face G771.

The 7010/8010/9010 has a different color trim than the 771. The 771 was never black.
The G-771 is black.

So, we really don't know what receiver the OP has. An 8010, 771 or G-771.

Whoa! LOL I didn't even notice that really until now!

Wasn't paying attention. I wonder where is the OP?

Did you guys scare away the OP?

From his description I think it's the black faced "G"
As to which speakers, that's always a tough one to answer, you gotta listen to them, preferably in your place, to know what will sound best.
That's a fine receiver, plenty of power, in the long run you will be better off with speakers that have an 8 OHM nominal impedance. That will generally be listed on the back of the speaker near the wire hookups...
Try Sansui speakers if you can, a set of SP 3500's would be a fine complement to that receiver.

Welcome to AK!!!

The three digit series, which includes the original 771 and it's black faced twin the 8010 date from the mid 70's. Roughly 1974 - 1976. They came after the single digit series and were available concurently with the 8080 and 9090 for a while.

The G series, which included the G-7700 and it's black faced twin, the G-771 were availble in the late 70's Roughly 1979 -80.

I believe the original poster has a 771. As far as speakers, any good quality speaker will work well with the 771. Start watching Craig's list and see what shows up.

And I have a 990DB, black faceplate version of the 9090DB and had a 990 which was the black faceplate version of the 9090. I have been told it was for the European market. Only wish I had bought a dozen 990DB receivers when I was in Germany. Imagine one NIB never opened. I know, still would need service but it would be nice to smell when you open it ;)

Here is the 990DB:

I'm so frickin confused. The OP titles his thread with "Black Faced g771". Then makes a short statement of "What speakers would you pair up with this receiver? The 771 is 45wpc". Unless the OP clarifies/verifies his original post, how can we even deduce what model of Sansui he has.

I myself can sit here and tear down his question and come up with evidence for every reply that has been offered. But until we know the exact model I don't see how anyone can give a solid reply to his question.

Im Back

It is the G-771 that was on ebay last week and I won it and its on the way! A beauty-I could post the number so the pictures the guy used are great! I just hope I can restore it somethings were wrong with it.

Good luck with it.
Let us know what's up with it.
Like, does it come out of protect.

Looks very nice.

Someone new to the hobby could easily mistake the G771 for the 771 when looking for info on the internet. Only a blind man could mistake silver for black. It is almost certainly a G771.
