Pics of your listening space

Very nice. I'll bet that sounds great.

Thanks for the compliment Bill. I usually make sure the chair is in the sweet spot -- defined as one arm length from the Ikea bookshelf with CDs which doubles as a side table...especially when I require a cold beverage, or two. The room is an odd size at 15' x 8' but it makes for great listening room with smaller speakers such as the KEFs.

Cool! How do you like the Cambridge CD player? Also, I noticed the laptop on the ottoman, do you stream to that system at all?

Lastly, where'd you score the sweet record cabinet?

Bill

Bill,

The Cambridge Audio is the 640 v2 model and it works and sounds great. A quality piece of gear that I purchased used for a few hundred $$$.

The laptop is for surfing the net, streaming video (Netflix) and AK posts of course. It is NOT for work since I want to keep this room for fun stuff only. Not quite big on streaming audio though...not yet. As you can tell from the pics, I am more of an "analog man" when it comes to audio.

The record cabinet is from http://www.lpbin.com/. Some might think it is expensive, but I can assure you it is worth the price. It weighs about 100 lbs empty which is due to it 3/4" panels. It's solidness is quite apparent as its sits next to an Ikea bookshelf.

My 9x10 home office is my primary listening space and after breaking in all of this years acquisitions I have moved my 2 channel rig back in to it. That leaves my 5.1 HT in the living room. I sit in a position where the speakers fill the room wall to wall and the TV is directly between the but 4 ft back. I can watch football and listen to tunes or use my half case Sony DVD player (beneath the cable box) and watch music videos or movies in a 2.0 configuration.

Why have the stands on wood blocks? Did they just need the extra height to reach ear level or is there some other effect on the sound?

Looks great as usual Art. I find my Dyns perform well in a small room as well. Curious as to how you decided on the corner-oriented placement.

Also, any good books on Jazz you could recommend?

Future listening space with a Fisher 500C and some DIY Adire HE10.1s holding me over while I work on the new house. Certainly not ideal but it makes good background music until I finish off the room.

My desk is in the opposite corner in what was once the closet of the small room. My chair sits at an angle so that I can look at the computer and then turn and have my head/ears perfectly situated. Where I sit, when I turn it also appears that the the little 32 inch Samsung TV is directly between the speakers. This is the best I've had this room setup.

Books...well I mostly have old CD guides and the Miles Davis autobiography. For those new to classical music I highly recommend The International Guide to Building a Classical Music Library by Bill Parker. A fun and informative book that will help those who are just now wading in to the waters of the Classical genre.

Yep, I play records while I watch NHL (maybe not this year).

I find that Ted Nugent or Aerosmith provide a better atmosphere than Simon & Garfunkel or Bread for hockey fights :boxing:

Really nice setup. I tried speakers diagonally across a room once; I should try that again sometime.

Very, very nice Art. :thmbsp:

Very cool! I have that dac. How's it do as a preamp? The A5's are almost universally loved.

Does pretty decent as a pre-amp, nothing to complain about. Has that same neutral sound and doesn't colour the music at all. It pairs very well with the A5+ speakers.

Most of the time though the D1 sees use as a headphone amp for my AKG Q701s. Just been chillin in bed feet up against the wall listening to some Sirenia and Opeth.

I've got the K701's and didn't feel the D1 was powering them well enough. Have to use my integrated amp for now. How do you like the Q701s? I love the K701s.

Really? Have you upped the volume in windows and whatever program you are using? I have my volume set at 0db in foobar2000 50% in windows and usually around 50% on the D1 and it is more than amply amped.

I must say I absolutely love my Q701s they spend so much time on my head it's not funny. Have them on right now haha. There have been lots of comparisons between the K701s and Q701s and I would love a chance one day to compare them. However for now I spend many musically blissful hours with my Q701s.

We are expecting a professional level listening room when you get done Dave.....don't disappoint us!

Most of my 1st floor is my listening space.

One day we need to paint where the shower cartridge leaked into the ceiling.

I had to include Miss Heidi in the listening space.

My wife is preparing Miss Heidi's dinner in the third picture.

Very nice . Love Heidi, she looks like a twin to our Sadie Mae . Great dogs .Funny,Sadie started out as Heidi when we first brought her home ...my wife re-named her for some strange reason . We had never had a Shepherd before, she is so smart it scares me .
