Thanks,

Right now I am using a pair of Rogue M120 tube amps... However I think thay would sound better on my Heathkits W-5s. I will be hooking them up later today.

:jawdrop: Nice array!!! Whenever you decide to invite some neighbors over for a listen add me to the list.

I have an old Heathkit AA-32 Vintage tube amp in great shape that I always thought sounded very nice. Its just like this one:

Is this speaker the perfect match for the amp?

Well it appears that the 25w heathkits do not really have the watts needed to push them... I may be doing something wrong as these speakers should be around 95 db... Put as of now I would say you will need 60 watts or more to fill a mid to large room... Right now the dynaco Mark 3s sound reall good.

What ohm rating do they end up?

Do they require a sub? Those really look totally cool! What was your final cost?

I would say that no sub is needed and the final cost....Humm maybe a little over $400... The kit price from PE shipped to my door was $310.00... Then add MDF, foam, and paint... Well worth every penny!!!

The woofers are wired in a 16 ohm configuration. The sensitivity is either 91dB or 94dB depending on how you measure it: 91dB with a 2.83V singnal (which give you 0.5 watts into a 16 ohm load), or 94dB if you run a one watt signal through them. The tweeter is a four ohm - hated to use that, but the Vifa DX25 is one of the few tweeters that's sensitive enough (93.5dB), has a low enough resonant frequence to permit a first order crossover, and sounds good.

I'm surprised the Heathkits don't do it. My Ella in triode mode with EL34's is capable of 25 watts maximum and it's all the amp I would ever want to use with them. They also play acoustic music, etc. nicely with the 3 watt Bottlehead Paramours, but for most music you would want more power.

Thanks!
I will host another DAC meeting in a few months and when I do I will let you all know.

I'm planning to bring mine to the Lone Star Bottlehead meeting in Plano on March 3rd. Mine include Sonicaps instead of the stock Solens in the tweeter crossover plus a 1.5 ohm resistor in series with the tweeter cap to eliminate a treble "edge" I hear without it. The resistor is connected to a switch so you can hear them with it in the circuit and without. Hope you can come to hear mine, and decide whether there's any difference.
