2008 in review

Everything Mac except for the mobile audio equipment was done in 2008. No thanks to a certain someone on here... pffffft.

:)

WOW, it seems like a lot of us spent heavily in 2008...

I went from a humble little 6300/201 system...

To a 402/2200/851 middle of the road system...

To a 501's/2200/MCD500/LS360's ...also bought all new Wireworld cables... and just ran a dedicated 20amp circut with dedicated ground etc... today!

Oh, and I COULD NOT be happier!!!:banana::banana::banana:

2009 is going to see me working on my old consoles and LISTENING to the music!

Oh, and I COULD NOT be happier!!!:banana::banana::banana:
That's what it's all about! :music: What's the point of making money if you can't spend it on things you enjoy the most? You can't take it with you and if you give it to your kids, they'll just pi$$ it all away... :D

All good points, and I'm in that camp (like you didn't already know).

In todays econony you have to keep spending it to make sure it still work$ ;)

A crazy year for me paving a crazier year ahead :

1. Out goes 2 pairs of MC1201's.
2. In comes 3 Consecutive Serial Numbered NOS MC2000s.
3. In comes a C2200G Preamp.
4. In comes a MS750.
5. In comes a MR85.
6. In comes a MVP871.
7. In comes a MCD301.
8. Coming in a NOS MC602 ......

Year 2009 ?

Maybe I should sell it all (just keep the combo of C2200 + (1) MC2000 + MC602) and re-start the hifi journey all over again ....

Now, ... the right reasons and timing is important in order to pull this "heist" thru! :D

Keep dreaming I should say to myself!

Agreed, AK is a great place! Glad to have you aboard and judging by the your post count in such a short time, you are a very prolific poster. :D I enjoy reading your well thought out and educational posts. :thmbsp: Oh yeah, the Santa girls weren't bad either. :D

Ill second that.

Nothing for me; just software. Too much $$ in the house in 2008. :tears:

Still trying to get one of my amps back to me in one piece though....

Added a Rel T2 as well. It's almost always off. I can't get it right.

I had a heck of a hard time with the more expensive Rel R-series. The class D amp made it way too fast for the Guarneris. The cheaper Rel T2 (with a more traditional class A/B amp) blends in much better. I set the xover very low (I estimate 35Hz) and I finally achieved the point where I only notice it when it's off - for the lack of deep bass.

Actually 2007 was my big upgrade year. 2008 only saw one change in my system, I replaced my C45 pre with an Audio Research LS26 pre. Wanted to stay Mac but they just don't have a balanced preamp available in my price range. No regrets at all, it sounds great and the green display on the LS26 actually matches the McIntosh green pretty closely. The biggest surprise in all this was that I NEVER thought I would go for a tube preamp. Never say never!

Two simple changes:

1- Added an MC252

2- Added a Furman Elite 15 PFi a few weeks ago. Talk about "attention to detail." Now that I can hear so much more of it, I am paying attention to it. :music:

Still dreaming of an MCD500 and a C46 (or a newer version thereof).

2007 was a bigger year for me as well (traded MC352 for 501s and added RealTraps to the room) but this past year I still made some significant changes:

Traded MC202 and MC7205 for MC207, mostly to save space and to get rid of bulbs (although I miss the MC202 now and probably should have kept it as they are rare). The 207 was a nice improvement over the 7205 though for surround sound.

Added another dedicated line for MC501 (each 501 has a dedicated 15 amp line now). The MC207 has it's own dedicated 15 amp line as well.

Replaced WS320 rear speaker with WS350 to match my other WS350s.

Upgraded long run (35') of balanced IC's from Belden to LAT International IC-300's for run from MX119 to MC501's - made a huge difference. Also upgraded PCs and speaker wire to LAT International.

This year I am looking at adding either a MDA1000/MCD500 and Mc Blu-Ray as finances (and wife) allow :music:

2008 saw several changes in my 2- channel system.

The MBL 111e's replaced my 802d's.
The 501's replaced my 402.
The MCD500 replaced my Esoteric X03-se and my MF Tri Vista 21 DAC
MIT speaker cable replaced my Synergistic Research B&W Spec 7.
Added a sub woofer.
Getting rid of the sub. Waste of money with the 111e's.

Started with C220, MC-275, MR-85 and Rogers Import Monitor II speakers.

Added: McIntosh PC-4 and a Benchmark USB DAC.

The Benchmark DAC was a marvellous addition to my system. Happy to stay with the system I presently have and have no desire to make any improvement to it, except for adding a NAS component to my computer system.

2008 was a big year for me.

  • Replaced Denon 3910 with Pioneer Elite BDP95FD Blue Ray Player
  • Added MCD500
  • Added MS750
  • Added a pair of MC501s
  • Added Wireworld Eclipse Copper Cables
  • Added a pair of 20 amp dedicated circuits

The trasformation of my system has been dramatic, but there is still work to be done. Regarding electronics, I invision adding a C500, MC501, MC402, and eventually a MVP881; however, my biggest decision revolves around speakers and whether to uprage my Martin Logans or change everything over to McIntosh. How the new XR200 sounds will probably be the deciding factor.

It was a good year for me as I dipped my toe into the McIntosh pool for the first time. Purchased some 40 year old Mac pieces, a MC-2105 Amp and a C-26 Pre-Amp. had them sent off to Terry Dewick and they are now performing beautifully. Really impressive soundstage displayed through my Klipsch Chorus II speakers. Now I have some inkling of what you folks have been raving about all these years.
Compared to some around here I am a real odd-lotter! But I am happy with my purchases nevertheless.

I'm a relative newbie to Mac. Started out the year with a very humble system consisting of, ...
MS300, Rotel PreAmp/Amp, B&W803

One day in March, succumbed to a deal I could not refuse, adding, ...
C220, MC501(2), MC402, B&W802D

Later added, ...
Transparent MusicWave Super Bi-Wire
Telefunken Smooth Plate
MCD500

And last but not least, a big artificial tree behind speakers, in front of bay window, that believe it or not, has had as much impact on sound as some of the aforementioned little toys. A very interesting hobby indeed.

2009 plans include, ...
Better interconnects
More room treatments
Power conditioning
