FM band conversion (Japanese tube stereo)

I've been searching the archives, but haven't found any information. Is there a way to convert a stereo from the Japanese FM band to the US/European standard? I picked up a Victor console a few days ago (JVC in the rest of the world), and it's still set for the lower FM band. It plays very well with nice tone, so I'd like to get it set up to work properly here.

You can also buy (rather cheap and nasty) ready made band converters that do the same.

You cant do a single conversion though - the Japanese band is very narrow. You'll have to switch the converter on and off depending on which section of the American FM band you want access to.

Otherwise you'd have to change coils inside the receiver.
