Nice auction description with Very good photo's made a difference I believe.
He does however state the demise of Western Electric more so due to the Depression
Than a forced government closure of a so called Monopoly Ala Altec

And for the "A" versions too. That is an outstanding price. I believe this is a great example of what to do to get the most money out of an auction.

I agree Dennydog, Not that I will be selling mine anytime Soon ...
But I need to get Original Grills for mine somewhere down the road ???

It is very rare to see the grills still in good shape. I did not have any with mine as I am sure they got broken a long time ago.

I'm sure they could be replicated if you had a piece of the original grill. There is a local guy that does laser wood cutting. I don't think his machine would probably be big enough to do a grill of this size but I bet a metal shop that has a cnc laser or possibly a waterjet machine could do it. I don't know if they would be willing to do something like this but it might be something to look in to.

I also would like to find a set of Altec lattice grills. The ones on my Valencias are fine but the ones on my Magnificents are a little rough. I'll probably try to rough out a piece that is close in shape and finish shaping it with a dremel. Gluing and attaching might be a little difficult, I'm thinking that a 24 gauge micro pinner will do the trick. Has anyone seen a pair of Magnificents? Mine are the only ones I've ever seen. I'm with you Sluggo in that I won't be getting rid of my Valencias anytime soon either. I will say bye bye to my 2 pair of LaScalas long before I part with any of my large Altecs. I will keep the K-horns though!!

Oh man, I'm jealous of you Valencia owners! I recently got a taste of vintage Altecs with some Madrids but obviously, the Valencia is in a different league. One of these days!

You'll get your day, I found my Carmels sitting in the rafters of a living room in oakland. Looked like they were up there since they were new. Of course the cabinets took a beating from all the heat up there but for 100$ I don't argue...

Those Vals look real nice.

Whether or not the grills would survive shipping would be another story. :tears:

There was one Valencia cab at a thrift this weekend. I saw it and my mouth dropped. But the cab was empty :( Too bad really

I remember that post..Always look up ! :thmbsp:

Yep, those nice grilles probably have a lot to do with the price to a collector.
When the item is rare and dear, the pricing can get very interesting....

I hope for the buyers sake they make it in one piece without getting trashed in shipping.
