Elac Miracord 46 info

Hi,

I just picked up said turntable and, unlike my Dual, I cannot find much info on it. Can anyone tell me how to remove the platter? Also, I'd like to clean and lube it. Any recommendations on the type of lube? Anywhere I can find a diagram of where to put it? I did this with my Dual, but there is a lot of information on the web concerning what to use and where to apply. Not so with the Elac

Have you checked Vinyl Engine for the manual -- they very well might have it.

I've got 2 10"F"'s for FISHER Consoles and a 50H. Almost got an 660 yday.

To answer your questions.
1. Take off the Rubber platter cover. Insert index fingers (1 each) into the holes on either side of the spindle. Put thumb on spindle, PUSH DOWN with THUMB, Pull UP with fingers. It will POP OFF! Be Careful It weighs about 6 pounds.

2.) 3 in 1 MOTOR OIL. Or Go to a Sewing machine center and get Sewing Machine Oil. For the Platter bearing (you have to dis-assemble underneath) use Lithium Grease. Mix oil into it 1 part oil 4-5 parts grease.

3.) Vinylengine.com has the 50H Manuals in German. Most of them are similar enough that you can use most any of the "Miracord" manuals with minor modifications to your technique. They don't go to much into lubrication but I'd say, if it has lube or grease on it, then clean off the old stuff and renew. Use oil for oil and lithium grease for the original.

Larry,

Thanks, I got the platter off and the Idler wheel looks like new. I did check out the 50h service manual, but I didn't notice anything about the lube (my high school German is kaput though). however, I'll check it out again tomorrow.

Heavy Sucker ain't it!!! The green pain reminds me of Zinc Chromate Primer. Hmmmmm.

Try one of the higher numbered Miracords in English. None of them go too much into lubrication. Like I said earlier they are similar enough that you can use most any of the manuals wth minor modifications.

Yeah,
It does weigh a ton. Seems very well built. Any suggestions about how to disassemble the platter bearing?

I did a breakdown on the 10F a couple week ago and posted here. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...0&postcount=28

I compared my 50H to the 10F. Mechanically they are identical. The 46 should be also or very very close.
