Ok Marantz fans - Old vs. New

I've had a ton of the older 70's-ish Marantz gear. Now how does their new stuff stack up. I was considering a PM8003. I'm not scraping my older gear. But I would like to try some of the newer "faster-cleaner" stuff.

I undestand that the company has seen a few changes over the years. Some good and some not so good.

So has the developement of newer and better power supplies improved the sound. Or improved it but not enough to warrant spending a lot of money on.

This isn't meant to start a troll like tubes vs. solid state. Each type of gear has it's virtues as well as faults. Just looking for an objective opinion.

The PM8003 is a really nice looking unit and the specifications are quite good. The reviews are very positive.

Do you think your vintage equipment will get jealous?

I have two newer marantz recievers. A 4021 2 channel and a ZR 6001 90 x 7 HT reciever. I have no complaints with either unit. My Klipsch Forte's sound awesome with the 4021. I'm leaning towards buying a new 4023.

I had a sr reciever, a newer marantz pre amp (forget the model) and an sg 9000 that came and left. I wasn't impressed in the least with any of them. My 3600 and 2252 aren't going anywhere and I'm always on the hunt for more units of this vintage.

I use a recent production Marantz CDP and turntable (an OEM version of the Clearaudio Emotion). Both are more than decent.

I think the new stuff is great with modern components and 21st Century technology, surround sound and the like. Most new speakers seem to need sub-woofers to have any sense of low end, also makes the companies more money. Sub/LFE outs and bass management systems are a necessity today unless you have mega bucks for so called full range speakers. For me, I still spin vinyl, got a bunch of CD's and I have large JBL monitor speakers that like current. I like the bass that doesn't have to be created artificially through one-note wonder subs. Give me a restored 2325 and the JBL's and I am as happy as a pig in slop! Just my $.02.

I"m starting to think - maybe I should try, and mainly find, and newish amp or preamp. Maybe I will try some of the esotec gear. Obviously finding it will be the next problem after paying for it.

Get a set of Model 9 re-issues from '96... that counts as new.

one new piece I will be trying is a digital or HD tuner. All my stations are having troblem coming in because of severe multipathing and also being broadcast in HD. Apparently I need a tuner with a capture ration in the 1db ballpark.
