Im getting a cdx-1110 this week.
Has anyone had experiance with both a new mid priced player and any of the yamaha cdx-fourdigit series?
I bought it to have a listen and to maybe use it as a transport with a external dac in the future.
I have both a CDX-530 "mid-price" unit (decent tech, decent specs, very lightweight) and CDX-2000 unit (excellent tech and design and components, awesome specs, very heavy

. The CDX-530 is just o-k, a bit like components with "no soul", and the operation of it is not very pleasing...it is WAY too light (you know, it might shift if you push a button too strongly), can make cheap sounds when operating, and seems to be made to be buried in a rack of components. The analog output is fine, probably better than most in its class, but it does not match up to my CDX-2000 in any way.
My CDX-2000 is made to be on display. The design (aesthetic and electronic) is very audiophile, and like you noted it provides you the option of digital output for using an outboard DAC, and/or if you have a pre-amp with digital switching (this is what I did when I purchased a Yamaha CX-1000 with digital switching capability). The Yamaha 4 digit CDX units are special in many ways, including excellent DACs that still sound fantastic (some might say a "Natural Sound"). In my opinion, they sound so good that even the "technically" more sophisticated DACs of today may not improve the sound (audibly), at least on most systems/speakers using CDs (remember, some people may not prefer a more "accurate" sound profile). An outboard tube DAC may result in a different sound, but I think everyone must decide for themselves what sound they like (warm, bright, natural, etc.).
In any case, you can rarely go wrong with a CDX-4 digit source in your system. Enjoy!
