You know me...I'm largely impressed with and enamored of the vingate '70's electronics. And I love a good ressurection project.I just found this amp while doing a google search on another topic.

Do you guys know about this product,Jaton?
What do you think of the price, specs and construction compared to my $125 Kenwood KA 8100?Trying to be fair here and going apples to apples I think.I don't have a similiar spec to post on the KA 8100.But I will google it and see if I can find one to add to this thread.

looks like a well made amp. 44 pounds. And the company is based in US so it should be easy dealing with any problems under warranty.

I heard the Operetta at the '08 AK Fest. It's a fine sounding and well built amp.

Apples to apples? No.

No apples?

Nah. Lemons?:D

The Jaton is a power amp. The Kenwood is an integrated. Even if your KA-8100 were completely recapped and restored by a qualified technician, I doubt it's sound quality would approach that of the Jaton. Not to say the Kenwood isn't a great little amp. It is, for what it was. In addition, the Operetta uses the popular LM3886 chip, which has been widely acclaimed for it's sound in Gainclone and Jeff Rowland amps. I use a pair of Channel Islands VMB-1 monoblocks which employ this chip, and it's sound is superior to that of an unrestored KA-9150 to my ears. Not really a fair comparison, and YM and ears, MV.

Here's specs on the KA-8100:

Now theres an answer...right there. How about the cost factor differential.
And BTW how does a chip know how to sound so damn good?
I asked that to one of my professors almost thirty years ago and he could not answer the question.
