I've had this back from catrafter for about a month now, giving it a thorough listening. Clean aint it?

I'm using a Dynavector P-75 phono stage currently, and since catrafter upgraded and recapped the internal phono stage, I'm telling you there's not much difference between that and the P-75. It could be since the Dyna 20XH cartridge I use is an HOMC/2.8mv, the P-75 really doesn't do much more than the marantz stage, since the P-75 might be optimized for a LOMC (like the Dyna 20XL @ .3mv, which I did try at one time and I wont get into the story but LOMC is not for me even with the P-75 in PE mode). Anyway I will have more time later to really compare the phono stages, but I do know the internal phono stage sounds better than before. Let's just say that my vinyl playback has moved up a huge notch. Well for that matter digital playback has never sounded better, either.

Tom did the Power Supply board, 2 main amp boards, 2 main caps, tone control board, FM and AM boards, Phono stage board, switchboard, misc boards underneath, hell he even did the dolby board. Not to mention all the cleaning, LED's, and misc all too numerous to mention.

Anyways, yes I do have a direct comparison as I have another 2325, (I know 2!?), albeit it just has 2 new main caps, but that's it. Both of these 2325's sounded quite close before catrafter recap (both DC offsets adjusted). I can verify that there is absolutely a sonic difference now. Sure they both have that marantz sound, but this one just has more of it. More details coming thru off vinyl, highs less muffled, more resonance...OK forget the sappy narratives--this thing just KICKS ASS now! (I can quickly do an A/B for testing, just switch speaker cables/aux input in no time.)

Yes the blue one on the bottom is the recap :)

Did I mention it seems to run cooler as well?

I used to think my 2252B had a tad better sound, but not anymore. (OK it needs a recap too, so not a fair comparison, and besides it aint got the balls of the 2325 :D).

Special thanks to Tom, for going above and beyond the call of duty.

No, just kidding..

Enjoy the machine!!!

Thanks a lot!

Catrafter is on FIRE !!! ........

Major Congrats Man !!! ... Very nice post with the sound comparison of the dual 2325's also :thmbsp: .... I did the same with 2285B's ... I think it makes for interesting information too compare restored and stock units. The 2285B Catrafter did for me still retained that signature sound when I tested it against the original piece  ... Enjoy :music: !!

Gorgeous 2325! I see you went with the LED upgrade, love those. Did you specify the yellow indicator lights? I started that, I thought they were original on my 2235B. :thmbsp: Tom usually uses 105C Panasonic caps, they're really nice. I want one of those 2325s, but I spent too much on a Fisher 800C. :tears:

sweet 2325! I've been lusting after one of those for some time now...and WILL make it happen eventually. I have a 2275 now.

I'm curious, what you are using for speakers?

Welcome to AK, first! :beerchug:

You may change the vellum paper behind the front. It's usually yellowed out over the years. Yellw+blue=green. In addition to that, you could paint the lamps blue with glass paint.

Some people here use LED, but I personally dont like the look of them. But its your try, of course.

True! I like the pics on Toms website: The 2325 before and after his work. Unbelievable!!!!

Tom has my 2245 on his bench right now. I am absolutely giddy with excitement .

Jailtime, thanks for the idea of yellow indicator lights :thmbsp:. I'm going that route with mine.
