Traded one of my SX-980's along with some $ for this SX-1080. It's in need of some cleaning and de-oxidation. Powered up and all lights worked, however, no sound.

I'm hoping it's something simple like fuses or oxidation. The jumpers are in place, so I know it's not that.

Let the fun begin! :D

That reciever is definately in need of some TLC. I'd start with checking the connectors at the amp boards. Check the relay, the fuses. Theres alot of rust, even for a unit thats 31 years old. Can you post pics with the top cover of the reciever off.

All is well in Pioneer land. Took the top and bottom off and snooped around. Hooked up a pair of speakers.....hey it works! :D

Looks like you're doing a nice job, but I'm curious . . . why trade a 980 for a 1080? I wouldn't think that the difference in power and features would be worth the bother. Especially if your 980 was already in clean, working condition.

I'm just askin'. :scratch2:

More watts per channel (120 vs. 80), bigger toroidal (it's a guy thing), and just part of having a "collection". I'd rattle off what SX models I have, but I'm at work and can't remember all 10 or so that I have, well the wierd numbered ones anyway (737,635,990?). :)

Feel free to ask away...no offense taken. :thmbsp:

Hey some of us love new projects. I myself have a tendency to get involved in way to many. Plus it is a nice upgrade! Props to highping for putting the work in to bring back that 1080! ;)

Done!

Finished with the case last night. I'm getting lazy, I should have sanded it first.

Go back to my first post and you can see how bad a shape the grill was in. :)
