It got ya in here!

Some nudies of my "NEW" to me 1965/66 Sansui 1000A.

Have had it about a month. It had been stored for last 25 years or so in it's box according to the Original owner. $50.00 plus parts to re-cap.

All 'lytics (except the 3 section multi which is scheduled for replacement), and ALL SUZUKI PIO's replaced with Nichicons and Orange Drops.

Both 6AU6's, both 6BA6's, and the 6BE6 were replaced with JAN Sylvania's(what i had in stock). 12AX7's replaced with JAN Sylvania 12AX7WA's.

The 7591's are 2 Toshiba's and 2 1974 Westinghouse's. All read under 30 on emission testing on my EICO 625. New one's are scheduled for after Christmas.

I adjusted the BIAS to 31MA and it's been running over the last 3 days averaging 10 hours a day. No hiccups. Rock solid tuning and absolutely no problems. Warmest part is the 6000/600 oHm resistors next to the tranny.

It's as Heavy as my SX-1010. My back is ON STRIKE!!!

Underskirt pic here.....Sansui forum (1000A is breathing....somewhat) http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=179331&d=1258156245

It really is a sweet machine and is only getting better by the day. Once I get it all dialed in I'd like to do a A/B with a FISHER 500C or an 800. Closest in specs Fisher had to the Sansui.

Pretty nice looker! That mess on the underside might turn me away though, at least if I was the one doing the rebuilding. Looks to have some fine iron. Please do A/B with a 500C. I know what the Fisher is like, I'd like a review of the Sansui sound.

Yeah it was a mess underneath. Actually it looks worse than it is to work on, at least caps wise. They were all pretty easily accessible. All told there were about 20 caps, not including the Big singles or the multi's replaced. That was lytics and pio's.

Nice unit, Is the PC board the MPX? Is the phono stage tube? I thought they used SS phono sections. A 1000A is on my wish list.

Hello!

Nice! I have the parts to redo my unit after Christmas. I have taken on the honey-do list with a vengeance, so I can spend a guilt free winter with a soldering iron in my hand. Peace. Robert

sure looks nice. i havent had any luck with sansui tube gear though. booom fizz mostly.

Looks like a nice one. :thmbsp: I have a Sansui 1000 (unrestored), & I'd like to grab a 1000A, obviously 2 different animals.

Destructor: The "PC" board is the MPX Unit. 6AQ8, 6BL8, 12AU7.

The Phono Stage is SS. In the Upper Right corner outboard of the Right hand Output Tranny, behind the tuner, you'll see a vertically oriented box. The Phono board is in there. That's the only thing I haven't touched. As is it's got a pretty good noise floor(it's quiet) even with the volume all the way up. So far it sounds pretty decent. Right now, I'm using a Pioneer PL-115D with a spare Pickering V15F from one of the FISHER consoles. I've got the 1249 with a Shure V-15-III and a VN35E sitting in the wings. Not gonna put that on until I finish the tubes and the Multi can.

I like the "presence" switch. It boosts the Mid bass, low mid only instead of like the loudness switch which boosts bass and highs. Brings out the voices, and the lower register horns, etc. that kind of get lost when the loudness switch is turned on.

I noticed that with this receiver and the Sansui SP-200's I have to set the 200's adjustment pot to the lowest setting with the treble pot on the receiver set to middle, or it gets too shrill. Hooked up the Criterion 4X's and again turn down the High pots. So went thru all the ones I have adjustments for. HH Scott S-15's, Criterion 77's, Optimus 2B, Sansui SP-2500's had to turn down the high pot/switch to lowest setting. Only the Nova 8B's I didn't have to turn down. All receiver tone controls were centered and the Low/high filters off, Loudness OFF, Presence off. YMMV.

This thing is just so much fun to listen to. I was listening to Doobie Bros y'day and heard something like zither in "Another Park, Another Sunday" that I had never heard before. I've been listening to them since 1970 and that 's the first time I've ever heard that. I put the LP on my 1010/1229/sp-2500 and couldn't hear it. But I heard it on the FISHER Console upstairs. Go figure.

Gotta go rake some leaves......DAMNED TREES!!!

That looks like a very nice unit, I found one at a yard sale for $10, had the caps replaced and tuner tweeked and it is a very sweet sounding receiver. I am still running the original Toshiba 7591s, they're a bit tired but sound great. I also would like to hear how it sounds against a Fisher.

Enjoy
