Yamaha Idler Wheel Turntable sells on ebay

Up Late
Saw this posted late last night. I made an offer and half hoped it was accepted and half hoped it wasn't. I probably wouldn't have been able to give any real attention this year. I can't really spare the money right now either, but it just looked to cool not to try.

Yamha Idler

I have never seen one of these before and couldn't find much info on the web. Anyone ever use one?

It reminds me of a line in the movie "1941".
Japanese sailor as he carries a cathedral radio into the submarine:

"We have to learn to make these things smaller!"

Japanese idlers must be rare. I know some of the early Pioneers were idler driven, and I personally own an early 60's Lafayette made by Teac, which looks alot like a REK L-37 but has 4 speeds and a large hysteresis motor almost identical to an Ashland.
Any other vintage japanese idler drive turntables that members are aware of?

I can't tell you how many times I've had the same feeling when I bid on something. A good deal is a good deal and tough to pass up or something rare that I want. Watching the seconds count down, tempted to increase my bid, wondering what my wife will say when the UPS truck shows up.

That has to be a rare turntable!

I would have been tempted, too... but mostly because with the GT-2000 I have and the PF-800 coming, this would have given me a "complete" set of Yamaha TTs, one of each major type! I wonder how that beast compares with the other oft-discussed idler drive TTs (Thorens, Lenco, Dual, etc...)-? Would be interesting to find out!

It reminds me of the NEAT branded Japanese turntables. Kind of a heavy duty Rek o Kut kind of affair.
