Broken G-8700 & G-9700 - looking for techs in FL

Hello,
First I must say that I own a G-9700 purchased from this board and use it proudly. It is powering DQ-10's and JBL 15's (housed in separate cabs). It is my main analog system and it always impresses those who hear it.

So my friend hears it (while separated from the misses) and totally gets the "bug". He already had a G-8700 which he owned since it was a year old. He told me it now stays in the "protect mode" with the green light flashing. He found a G-9700 from a friend who was selling off equipment and purchased it, even though it blows fuses when powered up.

He is back with the misses and has enlisted me to figure out what to do with the 2 receivers. Both units are at my house now. The G-8700 is in excellent cosmetic condition while the G-9700 is a bit rough. His preference is to end up with a working G-9700 while using the 8700 as payment. This is a difficult proposition, with the complexity of the repairs and the probable shipping of the units.

So I am asking the board for advice. And I am also searching for techs in the area of central Florida. After thinking on this for awhile now, I am inclined to ebay both and sell him my G-9700 for what I paid. Of course I am making a sacrifice (isn't that what friends are for?)... but I will get my analog system up and running with different equipment eventually.

Anyways, does anyone have any advice or recommendations? Just asking with no obligations... I thought this board would be the perfect place to look for advice. Thanks for your time!

The G-9700 blows fuses probably because the output transistors are blown. The G-8700 probably has bad driver boards. Now for suggestions. Since the 9700 is blowing fuses because of the blown outputs, the driver boards in this unit are probably bad. It is going to take significant work to get either one of these working.

It will take a little work to get the running but it's well worth it. I like the G-x700 series. Loads of very clean power. Sorry though, I don't know any techs in Florida.

Thanks for the help. I haven't heard from my friend, but it looks like these will be put on ebay soon.
