Listening Chairs suggestions???

Hey Ak-ers. I want a listening chair that is stationary and no swivel with adjustable height. My Wilson Sasha are set to listening distance and height so I would like to get a chair that is easily adjustable so if someone much shorter or taller than I sits, I can adjust.

Suggestions please.

I picked up a 'man sized' rocking chair at Salvation Army that works great for me. It is the standard traditional style that fits me (5'-9" and approx 180 lbs.) Whatever you do, be careful about the fabric or cushioning type behind your head when seated. If too cushy, it will catch the sound and prevent you from hearing the room ambiance. Been there - done that!

Good point on the head rest. While I like having something to rest me head on I'm not sure if its a good thing for the sound. I would think you want things to flow right on by.
Still not getting adjustable height yet.

That Ikea chair looks comfy...

The IKEA chair is a good, comfy choice. It came verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry close to coming home with me last time I visited the store. One of those chairs that sucks you in and won't let go (in a good way) :thmbsp:

Alas, the budget at the time sent me to Salvation Army instead. However, who knows what the future will hold when the funds allow.

I learned the lesson on headrests via a very cushy, and comfy Lazy Boy chair I used for listening. I noticed that the sound from behind me was very 'soft' (obviously!) but also the stereo imaging and bass response suffered. I found a cure by purchasing a piece of vinyl fabric something akin to that carseats at Joann's Fabric. I placed it behind my head, and it helped quite a bit.

I dont think a high backed chair is a good idea, its best to get one that leaves your ears free to hear the room and not reflections from a headrest.

It would be cool to build a heavy wood chair stand that would electricaly adjust.

Then sit the chair on it & enjoy.

I think that I will fabricate one when I get to that point in my listening room.

Maybe my new chair will be about a custom chair or a nice office style chair without the wheels. I want the adjustable height for sure and no head rest.

While not adjustable, and it's molded plywood. I find this to be an INCREDIBLY comfortable listening chair.

My chair has a natural ash finish (no pun intended :D): http://www.dwr.com/text/viewer.htm?id=0115

i have several of the metal and wood versions of that chair from the 50's. extremely comfortable task chairs but i couldnt see myself sitting in one to listen to music for extended periods.
