Someone is selling the Teac A-6010 for 200. and the Akai GX-625 is going for 150 with 2 nab adapters and metal reels. Which one is the best? I did want a 10 1/2 inch reel but I also want a deck that rocks and will last. Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Well I'm a Teac guy....but 200 is about 2x too much for an A6010 IMHO.

Go with the Akai the time.

I'm also a Teac guy but I have to admit the GX-625 is a better machine than a 6010.

A word of caution, make sure the electronics on the 625 work OK. Some suffer from bad transistors but I've never had any problems with mine.

Absolutely. 10 inch rules over that 6010 any day. Check the head wear on both though. You want a deck that is fully operational and working properly.

If the machine does have the known transistor issue, you can probably get the price down and fix it yourself. I did this with mine, and it's a very easy fix. I think all 12 transistors cost me $8 from the Bay. Mine works great now!
It's a good sounding deck, and also has the glass GX heads that last a long time.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The same guy also has a pioneer 1020L for 200.00 supposedly had the deck serviced and belt changed. Which would be better the Akai or the Pioneer?

dang i just bought a 6010 for 87$

hey do you guys know what the SL designation means on teac decks ? did i blow it btw ?

I have an A-6010. bought it overseas. during the Nam war. still runs/sounds great
