JBL L-200 Studio Master speakers

Hey, I'm not new to audio, but this is my first new thread on Audiokarma.

I have a pair of the prettiest empty L-200 Studio Master cabinets. When I say empty...I mean that there is nothing in them but dampening material! I would love to use these cabinets & would restore the original speakers & cross-overs, but I just don't have the $1500 to buy them!

I could just get a 15" woofer, a horn, & a 2 way cross-over, but I am told that I have to match the cabinet design. JBL corp said I should consult people on-line (no lie! They said go to on-line forums!) who know what might work.

Any ideas?? I would post a pic if I new how to do it on this site.

JBL Knows Best......

Howdy, ggoose1....I have no doubt that JBL was referring to this forum, AK, and probably also to Lansing Heritage.......

Sooooo....you're in the right place......For best results, Yes, you need to pay close attention to speaker specs......(especially the woofers).....to get a happy ending.....

This is too complicated for me to get into right now, but there exists, on this site, tons of info on what you need to do to put replacement speakers into an existing cabinet.....

The key is research....Search function is your friend.......

Good Luck......willhowl:yes:

Thanks, Guys! I'm still not sure where to go, but I'll do some searching around.
Thanks again for the response.

The first connection between Jackgiff and myself was loading the precursors of EconoWave into L200 cabs. You'll find that in my "Quick and Dirty" mega-thread on LHF. Here's the chronological index:

What would I put in them today on a budget?

D220Ti-OMF on QSC 152i waveguide w/ Deltalite II 2515 woofers.

Not sure about the woofers, but if the 14" x 10" QSC waveguides will fit, the high frequency section is a slam dunk....

L200 transformation

Hey, Zilch.

It would seem from reading an extensive number of your threads that you have put in 5 times more time, sweat, & probably blood, than the amount of time it would take for my head to explode! Unbelieveable. Would you mind if I stood on the shoulders of a giant, & got to the end of the thread...which I cannot find...and have you tell me what the **** to put into the cabinets? Remember, there are no crossovers, speaker binding posts, ...nothing. Are there horns I can "drop in" without much modification? I noticed in your response to my thread that you suggested some equipment. I definatley am not on the same "audiophile-god" level that you are on,(no disrespect to you..or God) so I really need you tell me in English what to use! Can the info you gave me in your response answer those questions with some.....crypto work?

By the way..I am really impressed with your knowledge in this regard. You seem to be a, well, ...a speaker "legend"!!

GGoose1... (Grey Goose?)

Which L200 cabinets are they? There were two that I know of, 1 had a single port tube and the other had (2) port tubes on the front baffle.. I think it'll make a difference when it comes time to tune the cabinet to the new woofer.

Here's the woofer: Eminence Deltalite II 2515

Here's the compression driver: Selenium D220TI-OMF

Here's the Waveguide (horn): QSC 152i Waveguide from HPR152i

Total cost for above is roughly $430 plus crossover..

I think you'd be very happy with the components Zilch has recommended.. I would think it would pretty much kill the original L200 setup. When money allows, you might think of upgrading the compression driver, but it's a damn fine setup as recommended.

They are dual port cabinets.

Thanks for the info.
Are there internal alterations that need to be made, other thanto fit the new equipment. When you say "tune the cabinets", I assume you mean changing the internal structure?
What do I do about a cross-over?

What upgrade did you have in mind for the compression driver?

Is there a suggested crossover?

I can do simple work like soldering, but I wouldn't want to start to actually build a crossover yet with my current experience, although at some point........

(the ggoose1 is in reference to my name. Greg..(then add a typical austrian name to the end & you get goose). I have 3 boys so they are goose 2, 3 & 4. I feel bad about that!

Z, I think the L200 is the two port and L200B is a single port..

Here's a pic of one with 2 ports with a Zilch-o-matic plugerator.

There should be plenty of room to make the QSC cutout, but I don't know bracing on the L200.. mine are L200B.

Wow! Great stuff. In a perfect, totally funded world, what would be the best? I would assume that is what you did to yours? What are the part numbers you used? Did you acquire yours from your own collection of parts, or purchase from JBL? I noticed that you plugged a port...due to the upgraded woofer you used? You no longer have an adjustment on the front of your L200's any longer. No need?

That's JBL 2235H woofer with JBL 2431H compression driver on JBL PT-F1010 waveguide and my best guess at a crossover ca. 4/1/05.... :)
