Inexpensive mono blocks?

Subscribe and join Barter Town here on AK. You'll find many of the very items you are looking for

On Mark III's be very careful as some folks just recap them then try to sell for more than they are worth. A recapped Mark III is worth little more than a stock one IMHO. Now if it's been modified to make it the amp it should have been in the begining or more then that is a different story.....

I bought a pair off Rex that had the full upgrade package.

P.S. Thanks again, Rex!

I am open to new or vintage, or even DYI like these Bob Latino M-125 I just read about. How much power? Not really sure. Those Decware's are like 6 watts ea.

I have the Decware SE84ZX, which the anniversary edition of the SE84C running in stereo at 2 wpc and truly love it. I have pretty efficient speakers at 93db and it drives them with ease. The beauty of the Decware is you can start with one and if 2 watts isn't enough, simply buy a second amp and bridge them.
I also use the CSP2 preamp from Decware. I have found the build quality and more importantly, the sound to compete favorably with equipment costing several times as much. I find the company is an absolute joy to do business with, and who can argue with a lifetime warranty on new equipment. I don't know what speaker you're planning to use, but unless they're really power hungry, I think you'll be presently surprised. Friends refuse to believe me when I tell them we're listening to a 2 watt amp.

Hiya,

Yep join BT and ask this there or browse Barter Town. Someone has a really really nice set of PP Fisher EL84 monoblocks for sale :)

:yes:Lot's of tube goodness on Bartertown lately. Well worth the $25 subscription fee, no decoder ring though. :smoke:

I have a pair of Meadowlark Hotrods. Don't let the impedance rating fool you, they sound absolutely fantastic with my Onix SP-3 tube amp. Appx 38 watts using 5881 tubes.

Rogue Audio M120 monoblocks can be had used within your budget. 120 WPC, four KT-88s per monoblock.

I'll second the Rogue Audio stuff. The worst thing about them is shipping them. Very heavy and large. Another thing to look at would be a pair of McIntosh Mc30s. Great amps and there is probably a chance you could find a pair in your price range.

If you want tubes to push the Meadowlarks you don't need to spend a fortune. 40 watts is plenty and there's a lot of options for under $2k. Maybe not class A mono blocs but there's several tube integrateds to choose from that will sound very good. I owned a Jolida 502b but it didn't work very well with my Shearwaters. My Onix SP-3 is a great match though.
