Show Us Your Sonys!!!

The PS1800 reject and shutoff mechanisms are now functioning. There is a point in the linkage that binds sufficently that the 9V electromagnet can't overcome it. Lubrication and magnet repositioning solved the reject problem which also solved the shutoff problem as the mechanical logic requires the reject cycle before advancing to shutoff. A few issues yet to deal with but I was finally able to give it a test run with a V15III. The table seems to be worthy of the cart, good detail, tracks well and clear highs and lows. I expect more mprovement as I go but for now am satisfied the purchase was worth it.

Very nice match! Once you get the STR-6200F cabinet (x2) made and the 1800 refinished they will be stunning. Worth it? What is your hourly rate? Obviously, a labor of love. Good job. :thmbsp:

I brought the 6200F back into the house for headphone use at my desk and sent the 6060F up to my workshop. Makes a great test system for the source refurbs too. The cases will get done. I'm back to my wood supplier next week and he claims to have some reasonable cherry in stock.

Here is the next project, a TC580 in excellent cosmetic condition but it has been sitting in a basement for some time so is suffering what I hope are lubrication related problems. Unit is auto reverse, records both directions, 3 motor, six head, 3 speed. Doesn't have the F&F heads but what it has appear to be in good shape. I understand it is a finicky deck but it has some nice features, one being an hour and a half of unattended play of 7 1/2" ips fidelity on a 7" deck. Pinch rolls, hold down arms and heads all appear to move as they should. Sounds great, had a half hour or so of listening before the hubs started squealing and slowing down.

Any one tackled one of these before and willing to share the benefit of their experience?

I hooked up a pair of Baby Advent IIs to the 6060F for background music. I had never had a high opinion of those speakers but with the 6060F they sing nicely.

Great electronics can overcome some shortcomings in the speakers is the lession.

i sold my str-v5 in perfect condition on german ebay for 150 $ !!
so don´t pay too much for a str-v7
better search for v-fets sony amps for sound

The prices on audioscope.net are far far away from the average German market price. Their units are always in an extremely good condition and technically up to date, so there is a high amount of refurbishing time involved.
I nevertheless doubt, that they finally go for such high prices. You probably have to negotiate your price and/or trade in another unit ...

Please take a look on my new SONY TA-P7F baby integrated amplifier ! I have only nude pictures from the repair, but these are nevertheless very interesting.

All metal construction (except some very small plastic parts), switching power supply, heatpipe cooling system. Phono stage can be switched to MC. There is almost no air left inside, it´s full. I measured the output power to impressive 2x70W on 8Ohms and 4Ohms. The electronics is related to the TA-F6B. For 1979 a real masterpiece of miniaturization.

As Axel already mentioned on TVK this is really no toy, because it sounds as good as the big ones. On Line sources it moves somewhere close to the TA-F6B, the TA-F80 nevertheless has a bigger more defined soundstage. I didn´t listen to the TA-N86B for a long time, but I´d bet, that the baby amp is able to beat it.

I always wanted a Precise P7 set with a pair of SS-G9 - powering those monsters with such tiny units I find cool.
Would be interesting to compare the P7F, F6B and F40 since the latter is supposed to be the basis for the P7F...

It really amazes me the Precise P7 units didn't sell much in Japan or elsewhere. But then neither did Technics' contemporary "01" set - there must be something relating "size" and "high-end" ;-)

Do you happen to have some more info or reviews regarding the mini's (or Pixy Pro series as you say, although they have never been marketed under that name overhere) using the active MFB speakers with the electrostatic tweeters ? (bi-amped or so it would seem, judging from what it says on mine). I have two MHC-7900's (all plastic ofcourse) that I find sounding very nice and grown up for such a 'mainstream' mini component system.

I guess I should post some pics here even though it's not really vintage (although from 1994), but interesting nonetheless.

I do have the japanese lit' for the PixyPro as well as that for the S1 system which used more or less the same speakers but time is lacking to bring them online and renew the Precise P7 post (which is now offline btw, until I have time to)
That MHC wasn't really mainstream but looked like it - same as for the P7 and many others from Sony which I guess was part of their rather limited sales...

Hehe, looks like you need some time off to nurture your TVK followers ;)

I am already getting withdrawal symptoms :D

Here's some pics of one of my MHC-7900's and their speakers.

Nice mini-systems! The matching TT for one of them is on eBay. May even be two of them.

Posting this here as I've just added the TA-N80ES to my system. The two outputs from the C-2x are driving the TA-N80ES and B-2. They, in turn, are driving a set of NS-500 sitting atop a set of NS-1000. Have named this the SonYamaha rig as there are four Sony pieces and only three Yamaha. If I had included the speakers it would have to be the YamahaSony (which doesn't fit together as well). :D Picture taken sans flash, so resultant yellowish tinge. But, shows the various lights.

Very nice setup man ! I am jealous of the gear you have!

Still looking for a pair of APM's or Yamaha NS1000's that fit my budget and in Europe, to complement the TA-E86B/TA-N7B combo (N7 still needs refurb).

Thank you. Does have a very nice sound. Think I've about settled in with the gear I will own. Next comes the tweaking.

Maybe you could get Unda Maris to do the N7 for you. IIRC, believe he did his. If not, send it a board at a time to EW. Someone from Australia is doing that with a Kenwood piece (Theophile?).

Mirko has already searched out the parts for me, but still waiting for those. Don't think the dude has time to mess with my N7 anyway, and I am already weary of the idea of sending my precious N7 overthere, because be it postal services, TNT, UPS, Fedex or whatever, they always seem to mess up the things most precious to you. You would not believe how one of those MHC7900 systems got delivered at my house by UPS. They did pay for the claim but that does not fix the damage done.

A tech friend of mine is gonna do the overhaul, because I am not exactly an electronics expert to say the least.

Very much looking forward to the sound of these babies though... :)

After that I might have to try out some Yamaha VFET stuff (uh oh...)

I am in Belgium, Mirko is nextdoors in Germany, but I do not have a car so I can't bring it either. Don't think I can motivate anyone to drive 300 miles to drop off an amp either :D
