Restored or not

Just bought on ebay a Sansui AU-717 (with skippy124's help) It looks to be in good condition, some upgrades - with okay replacement filter caps, and glue removed and cleaned. Not a bad price, saved a lot instead of buy that first one. Have put the money towards a Sansui 8 Deluxe I got from Ebay also

Probably use the the 717 with some modern speekers with ribbon tweeters.
Can the Sansui AU-717 drive Celestion Ditton 66 speakers? Would they be a good match?

or as an alternative strategy one could go with one of the TPA3116 based amps for cheap or the crown xls 1500 or 2000

How would the crown xls 1500 or 2000 compare to say the NAD C275BEE Stereo Power Amplifier ? wouldnt mind using one with the AVR one day.
was thinking of getting a second hand one of the C275BEE(local) the CRownis only availible over seas but still a couple hundred cheaper and its new.

Posted the same thread on an Australian forum. here are some of the highlights

"Pretty much any modern amplifier would be a significant step up over the Sansui."

"A lot (in fact most) of these audio/hifi sites are infested with plebians who simply have no idea what they're talking about. "

" You're paying a thousand dollars for a near-on forty year old 2-channel amp. Any AVR on the market will blow it out of the water in just about any way you could think of. "

"several AVRs available from Yamaha and Denon, that would easily outperform the Sansui."

I would take anything on that site with a big pinch of salt.

Better still, just ignore that site ;)
