Sansui databse - *New* Reports

I have replaced the old Sansui Sales on eBay report with two new reports;

Sansui - Sales {by PRICE} and
Sansui - Sales {by DATE}

These two reports give you a good look at the price trends for Sansui gear sold on eBay.

Go to: http://www.clarkeworks.com/Clarkeworks_Sansui.html to view all reports and to download data in Excel format.

Hi there, recently I made a list of all the Sansui gear I own and have dated it all via the serial numbers.
Here is the list for you to add to your database of Sansui...

2000A - 810040398 April 1970
1000X - 11120946 Jan 1971
350A - 814020413 Feb 1974
800 - 28114492 Nov 1968
QRX5500 - 234120379 Feb 1974
QRX7001 - 235079454 July 1975
TU-666 - 231020591 Feb 1971
G-6000 - 858050948 May 1978

AU101 - 513123205 Dec 1973
AU505 - 833020106 Feb 1973
AU9900 - 216020087 Feb 1976
AU919 - 229080010 - Aug 1979

SP1200A - 94090961 Sep 1974
SP1200A - 94090926 Sep 1974
SP2500A - 95010663 Jan 1975
SP2500A - 95010649 Jan 1975
SD7000 - 110080003 Aug 1970

Some of the dates could be wrong, I did question the speakers when I did them as the "A" versions could not have been made in 1970, as 74,75 seem to match better.
Hope this list is some use to you anyway
Cheers :)
Glen

Paul I notice you don't list MSRP's for the speakers. Is that just an oversight or do you need them? If you need them, I'll be happy to provide them for you.

Mike

ProAc_Fan:

I only have MSRP where I could locate it. Many of the models were "clones" of other models as I found new sales for them - hence no MSRP for those.

I hadn't noticed that speakers were so short of MSRP's. If you have these numbers then, by all means, send them over and I'll (puff puff) key in more data :D

Thanks,

Paul

Glenz75:

Thanks for the serial numbers. I'll get those added along with yesterdays eBay sales sometime this morning.

A splendid list -

here the s/n´s of my Sansuis

TU-X1 1210040070
AU-X1 1220050138

both sold in Germany about 1979/80

Zulualpha said "A splendid list -

Why, thanks. I do like some feedback :D

I had a problem with your serial numbers. They are not "in spec" as I (we) understand them.

If I drop the leading "1" in each s/n, they decode correctly. I am wondering if there was some sort of different s/n system for units sold in Europe. I must ask B/F if he know of this.

Anyway, I added them with my modification and they decode correctly, I think.

BTW, the Sansui database now has 898 Models, 819 eBay prices and 186 serial numbers.

Next milestone, 1,000 eBay prices!

Paul

Hi Paul,

Perhaps z-a can verify if there is an extra digit in his serial #'s or whether it was a typo, as far as I know, the s/n code should be the same.

I am glad to see that the Database is expanding, however, as I mentioned before, alot of the beginning/ending dates of manufacture are in need of correction. For example, the AU-517, 317, and 117 are all part of the same Line, thus its clear that the AU-317 cannot be dated 73-74 (as it is shown in the database) if the 517 & 117 are given as 78-80, correct? Sansui also had a tendency to add some lower wattage models to the Line a year or so later, such as this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3063755973&category=3280

Have you been in touch with Bill Jahn yet? Perhaps he can provide you with his copy of Sansui model/date info which is quite accurate. I did tell Bill I'd look over the List & proofread it when I had a chance (and I will do that, Bill :) but a quick perusal of it for now-looks pretty accurate. The info is laid out in the same style as they appeared in those October Audio magazine Annual Directory issues.

If you really wanted to speed up the process of adding additional s/n's to the d-base, I'd suggest sending a pre-written request to all the Ebay Sansui sellers and asking them- most would probably be happy to comply and write back to you with the s/n they have for the unit, though some may not for whatever reasons. Since there will always be Sansui's coming along on Ebay (and places like Ebay Germany as well), this project will be an ongoing one :)

Regards,

B/F (For now, as an example, I'd list the AU-20000 as 1975-77, ditto the BA-5000, and if there are any spotted in the future on Ebay with an 8 in the third digit, then I'd revise it to 75-78)

[B/F]

I have emailed William and asked for those Sansui pages. We just concluded another bit of business as he found 2 drivers for my Boston A70's.

I made some data changes to the "date trigger" that allows my routines to select the date from the serial number for those 117's, 317's and 517's etc.

You can verify and report back to me any that seem to be inaccurate.

How this new date routine works is;

If the manufacturing dates are all contained in the same decade, then my "DECADE-START" date field will be the start year of that decade. For example;

1973-1975 DECADE-START=1970

However, if the manufacturing dates span a decade boundary, the my DECADE-START date field is the START YEAR of manufacturing. For example,

1978-1982 DECADE-START=1978

That way I can calculate that a year digit of "2" in the serial number of that last example is 1982 and not 1972 based upon the DECADE-START of 1978.

It's quite flexible but like all flexible systems it requires a bit of data tweaking. And I'm forever adding data and making adjustments when I find errors. It's becoming a full time job :D

HELP!

New Features in Sansui Database

I have added a Database Statistics link at the top of the Sansui Database Web page that states the current database statistics (counts) and shows the last date/time that the database was updated.

This makes it easier to tell if things have changed since your last visit - .. and you ARE visiting the site, right? :D

See the Sansui Database here.

B/F is right, I had a closer look at the s/n of my Sansuis.
I mistook the residues of a sticker from the Sansui-Dealer.
They are both in fact nine digit s/n´s.
Time for some glasses...

I'm not sure if you can use this or not, but I picked up a pair of SS-20 headphones yesterday, complete with box, extension cord, and product literature. S/N is 641 61.

HiFi:

Where did you find the serial number on those SS-20's??? I have a fabulous pair of SS-50's (eBay, of course :D ) and I can't find any evidence of a serial number.

The serial number is on a small sticker on the box (black with gold numbers). These even have the original sales reciept, and it's on there too.
