I picked up one of these and loving it so far. I've read about later models having a speaker relay, not sure if this is a big deal or not but curious how to tell if mine is a later model with this relay. Serial number is one way I'm guessing, not a tech so not looking to open it up cause I wouldn't even know what to look for.
Thanks DL

pssst :smoke:- post number 3. Cant miss it - faint yet noticeable click with a little "tiiing" echoing out.

I didn't want to pull the bottom cover off because I am not sure what I am looking for however, I will listen for the clicking.

It would be interesting to track serial numbers for Eight's to see when Sansui made the upgrade.

My Eight is serial number 221091157, September 1971 production and it does not have the relay.

IIRC, the Eights with no relay use some type of SCR setup as a protect circuit.
Yes, it has some sort of semiconductor based protection circuit. There is some evidence that it can cause more harm than good and they are often removed. They also have super fast blow fuses to protect the speakers.

Yes the early protection system is junk.
Best to remove it.

The trick with the Eight is to have it restored.
It's worth it.
