"If you want a mountain bike, you sell one of your san...whatever they are called" - such was the dilemma laid out by the CEO. Cant really blame her, with 3 operating amps around the house, 2 on the bench and one hidden in a closet, that she may or may not know about.
I put it on CL with low expectations, but at a premium price due to its completely restored state and excellent condition. The first message I get is from a guy who just wants to let me know that a Sansui Eight will never sell for that much, let alone on Craigslist. Second inquiry after just 2 days is from a fellow 200 miles away who is very interested. We talk on the phone and I go over the restoration. Then 3-4 days goes by and I hear nothing, thinking, oh well, lets resort to the bay. Then next day the guy from afar let me know he'd like to audition it next day if possible.
The guy shows up, a very nice gentlemen in his sixties. He talks about his time in a band during the late 60'ties and how he has searched far and wide for "that" sound - separation and great harmonics - his words.
I hook her up - and 10 minutes goes by in silence while we revisit the 60'ties on a CD he brought along. The Eight sounds amazing and I am already beginning to regret. Then the guy stops the CD, pauses and says I'll take it, full price, this is an incredible sound, very very nice.
So the next few days I suffers some sellers remorse - until the guy calls me back tonight and leaves a message telling me how happy he is with the purchase "I have been listening all day, I don't even wanna go eat - thanks for the great effort you put into this" - This cured all remorse, knowing that someone out there really enjoys the heck out this Eight" and another Sansui aficionado has joined the ranks :tresbon:
