Did you beat me to those too? Go and get them!

Rick

Haha - Nope, I didn't respond to the listing because there's so many crap speakers out there, I figured these were another example. I hope you get 'em! :thmbsp:

Called the seller. Young girl was selling them. She said come over and look and see if these were worth the 20.00. She was only 20 minutes away. Got there and she couldnt get them to work with a Denon DRA-95A AV receiver. I couldnt get any sound either, so I asked her what she would like for them. She said 10.00 for the speakers and Denon. I didnt argue. Got them home, hooked them up and YAHOO!!!!! Excellent sounding speakers. Some cosmetic issues like stretched grill cloth, some bad scratches, but I think I can fix these without much effort. Also missing 1 midrange dustcap. To think that she was going to take them to the dump if they didnt sell.

Hi Speakerlabfan, I guess I got lucky with this one. I just happened to look at CL and they were posted approx 5 minutes earlier. Apparently, the seller just moved back home, had the speakers in storage, and her mom wanted these out of the house. She complained about the room these took up in the family room. Also, the young girl had just bought a surround system and didnt have use for these, plus the "mom" factor. Maybe we can come up with a new term instead of WAF. MAF...:nono: What was cool about this young girl ( 18-20 yo) was the fact that she got down with knowing how to hook up equipment. Even tho the Denon wasnt working, she still trouble shooted every option to get the speakers up and going. She even helped with bringing the gear out to my truck.

That is cool. It's nice to see when any young person (female or male) has the interest level and patience to play around with audio setups. I don't think my 15 year old daughter has the interest level in non-portable, non-fashionable 2 channel stereo equipment - but I'm working on it. She keeps her laptop configured and connected to the wireless network, though, and is quite handy with all sorts of software which makes her Dad proud. :thmbsp:

Congrats again, and enjoy the music! :music:

They look like my c80's.Get em.NOW.
OTOH,the way the guy worded it,he might be fishing for the highest bidder.

Hi 2DualsNotEnough, Noticed you own a pair of these also. On the back there are 2 positive speaker posts and 1 negative. Also there is a picture which shows an a&b hookup. Is this for some type of bi-amping? Or just a different sound setting. Thanks

According to the guy I bought mine from, its a bi-amping option.I use the first two jacks on the right.Seems to work the best for me.According to the Kef site, these were considered the more economical alternative to the $2200 104/2's.At almost $1100 a pair, economical is a highly relative term. You got an absolute steal.I love my pair.

Nice score. I have the C40s from that series of Kef and really like these speakers.

Here is some info from the marketing document of that series.

The hand written notes in the specs table above are from the dealer when I picked up the C40s in the mid-1980's. The C40s were $550 a pair or $500 if you also purchased a receiver. The C80s were too expensive for me at the time. If the C60s sold for $275 each, I bet the C80s sold for at least $300 per speaker.

Cheers. Snade

you suck! that's a great deal. i don't know why KEF speakers sometimes have crappy resale. seems everyone wants the 104/2-107/2 and the R101 (like ls3/5a). everything else goes for nothing.

i paid relatively too much for my KEF Calinda. $225 and the guy drove them to my house from 50 miles away. but you can't go wrong the the T27 tweeter (from ls3/5a), B200 woofer/mid (larger version of the B110 from ls3/5a) and the passive B139d oval radiator.

sound incredible.

see ya,
Robby

Hey Rick, Sounds like a plan. One of these days we can hook up. Seems like life gets so hectic. Let me know your schedule for the week or next. weekends too. I also still need to pick up the TT.
