RAWKIN with my new estate find

similost

Rockin and Rollin....
Ok.. well, so maybe it doesn't rock so hard.. it might take a good 1/4w? .. either way, it was cute, and so alone looking on the shelf by itself, so I just had to take it home with me.

It looks a little scared in the last picture.. I think I'll keep it on the porch since it can't hang with the big dogs..

I think I'm gonna take back the can't play with the big dogs part...

Hooked it up to the headphone output of my laptop.. WOAH.. this thing sounds good.. just not much volume from it.. SO.. decide to put some real power to it.. and I'm impressed..

pulled a wire from one of my Community speakers and wired this little thing onto it.. WOW. it will take a hell of a lot more wattage than I ever imagined, and for being a 5" driver.. I was pretty impressed with the sound.. damn.. wished they would have had a pair now..

That Jensen driver should be a good little speaker... keep looking, a mate may turn up! :thmbsp:

It's actually a lot better driver than I ever thoguht. Now it makes me want to go looking for all those stange speakers out there at garage and estate sales that are packed with good speakers and you just never knew it..

That looks like a small cabinet from a combo guitar amp?
Maybe an earlier (and slightly larger) version of this?

Actually, after searching, it doesn't appear to be a guitar speaker. It's just a full range driver.

Yep.. it's just a regular full range.. or at least as full range as you can get for a 5" speaker.. I was pretty surprised.. I knew what it was when I found it.. Jensen that is.. but I had no idea it would actually take a fair amount of wattage.. no idea what I was pumping into it, but was taking it with no distortion.. The wife is wanting it hooked to her TV in her workout room she was so impressed.. should hang on the wall real nice..

I may have one of those drivers in my stash, I'll check latter.

now that would be cool if you had one you wanted to part with.. making a similar cab for it should be pretty simple..

Well I dug them up, and they are 8" Jensen Special Design speakers. Wish they were 5"ers..

Thanks for checking for me. No biggie.. she just wanted a little better sound, and this one speaker will do it.. just fr her workout room TV.. .I guess if I was really nice, I would put my Sansui Quad with a pair of CS-77's I have in there for her.. :scratch2:

Hmmm... maybe you could put this driver in a nice horn cabinet.
Like this:

Here's a pair. Of 10 inchers!
If you have cash. Lots of it.

No affiliation, etc.

THat is an interesting design for those horns.. shame I don't have the time.. or wood tools to do something like that...

As far as those 10's, I bet they sound great, but no idea if that is a fair price for them or not.. actually.. I have no need for them. but if I needed a good quality speaker, I'd probably look at them pretty hard..

Cool link -- would love to try a kit like that one day. Off to Google, to find one that isn't in Japan... :D
