How to replace the Pioneer TX-9500 II Power Light

Hi guys, I just got a Pioneer TX-9500 II. Its really sweet, sounds awesome looks just as good. A bunch of bulbs were burned out and I replaced all of them except the power one. I read somewhere that the power light is the most difficult to replace, and it definitely looks that way. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or any suggestions before I go tearing the faceplate apart to get the little guy in.

Thanks,

Nate

I don't remember it is that difficult to replace the power light from my TX-8500. It took me a while to find the part then everything is very straight forward. Forgot what the part was.. a 2 pin 6.3V lamp???

The Replacement Bulb

The bulb is supposed to be an 8V .3A lamp, but apparently that is near impossible to come by and a 12V 25mA (RS part number 272-1141) does the trick. I got this information from a site listing all the different bulbs needed by different tuners and what to replace them with if necessary. I have replaced every other bulb on the tuner with recommendations from this site and everything works great. The site also said that the power light replacement job on this tuner involved disassembling the entire front panel and that if the bulb was out it wasn't worth it, unless you really wanted it fixed. That makes me hesitant to go take my otherwise perfectly functional tuner apart.
I just looked at a picture of the TX-8500 and my power light appears identical from the outside. If you don't remember it being too difficult I will give it a shot.

Thanks,

Nate

Contact AK member dgwojo thru a PM he will have something that will work for you. I have an SA-9500II and he was able to set me up. I believe IIRC that it is a 4mm lamp. Replacement was a bit of a pain but completely doable.

Replacing the bulb

Is there a way to change the bulb without removing the faceplate? If not, how do you safely remove knobs? The biggest one (the tuning knob) appears to have a screw hole but I am afraid to pull too hard on the others. I just tried to get the face plate loose, leaving all of the knobs on, but having taken out all the screws I could see, it wasn't even wiggling.

Yes I think you must remove the front otherwise you must remove the lamp from the rear which means you may need to cut open the lamp housing.
The front is easy to remove. Make sure you use the right hex. It is metric and I don;t remember the size. Once the set screw is removed you can take the knob off easily. The rest is a piece of cake.

I need to replace my bulb soon, let us know the outcome.

You can use 2 spoons to remove the other 2 knobs, and you definitely need that special 1.5 allen wrench for the tuner knob.

While you have the unit apart, now would be a good time to clean the faceplate and knobs...good luck!

Hey Guys,

I replaced the power indicator lamp in my TX-9500II earlier this year. Not that difficult.

Yes, the faceplace will need to be removed. Once you do that the 8v 50ma bulb will be held in place by a rubber 'boot'. You may also need to remove the sub-face panel (the piece that holds the switches) to gain access to the bulb and the wires. I like to use shrink wrap for insulating the solder joints once I get the new lamp soldered in place.

Good luck!

I've got the wrench!

I talked to the guy who sold me the equipment and he had all of the original manuals including the wrench that came with the pioneer tuner. The only problem is that now I am back at school and all my vintage audio stuff is at my parents' house. I will have to wait a couple months before I am actually able to try this.

Hi Nate,

Could you tell me what is this site, please ?

Thanks in advance, Olivier
