Sylvania Nut
Picked this up the other night. Haven't been able to find any info on it but I was impressed with the build quality of it for being from Sears. Check out the huge transformer!

It would appear to have been built by Toshiba based on the components inside and at least 50 watts per channel. Built around '84 or '85 maybe. Does anyone have any information on this unit?

Looks more like a Sanyo to me, base on the outward appearance and internal contruction.

Could be but I'd expect to see some Sanyo components in it then. It has nothing but Toshiba IC's and transistors, caps are Elna and Rubycon. Outwardly it reminds me of JVC more than anything else. :p:

A Sanyo with Toshiba power transistors instead of a STK power pack ???

It looks like a JVC to me, but I know some LXI were exact copy of some Sherwood products.

Upon closer inspection there are some Sanyo caps mixed in the preamp section along with the Rubycons. Still leaning more towards Toshiba though.

Dude, I worked for Fretter for six years as the audio repair tech for Northeast Ohio. I repaired MANY Sanyos and Fishers. :yuck: There are many models that have discrete outputs, and the ones they use are mostly Toshiba. I haven't seen any with TO-3 transistors, they were all TO-3P, but the heatsinks on the "better" Sanyo units looked just like this, as did the transformers they used on both Sanyo and Fisher. BTW, although the output stages on the Fishers blew up all the time, those transformers never went bad. Probably the best part in those amps.

I found a LXI system in the trash a few months back, and have wondered about the maker of the amp. If it is a Sanyo, how good would you say it probably is? (IE is it worth fixing, as at the moment the relay won't click into gear.) It did it for me once and hasn't ever since. If i can get it going, i'm thinking of using the guts in a diy project, or just using it as is in the garage. Any suggestions?

Well mine for sure IS worth fixing.....from cold it plays for about 10 mins before cutting out (relay clicks)..have you tried popping the top off the relay and cleaning the contacts ?....mine was the same as yours at first but now it will turn on every time.......but it is so well built and a real bit of solid metal workmanship that i weant to get it going properly ........

Oh yes and it sounds great !!!

Post some pics of yours if you can, i would love to see it........

Sure, but at the moment it is a partially dismantled mess. I haven't tried to clean the relay contacts, as i'm not sure how. Can you describe the process?

Some pics for Cogsinister

Ok, pics are in. As you can tell, mine is no silver faced beauty. Does have output power meters built in though.
