The Arena GOLD MINE Are Mine Now!!!

A continuation of this thread- except I went and got them!

When he pulled the grill covers off I slammed his $100 asking price on him so fast his hands were stinging! These are a freaking gold mine!!! The best CL score I ever nabbed!!!

All drivers work perfectly, has the 4 tweeters, the three 110 mids(?) and the 2 KEF type 139's plus a downfiring passive- per cab. In a brief sound check they sounded unbelievable!!!!!

The cabs are OK- will need a refinish but the wood is not scarred up - just a few blems here and there. The heavy chrome square tube legs have no rust and are solid as rocks. The grills are perfect These things MUST weigh in at over 120 lbs EACH!!

I am so excited I better go change my underwear now, for obvious reasons. WOW the Scandinavians can REALLY build a speaker!! These had to have been top of the line at one time. More to follow as I explore their guts and sound!!!

Very interesting design!
Regards,

I was just thinking..."I bet DC needs some more speakers." ;)

Those look really funky. I'd love to hear what they sound like. Looking forward to more impressions. Guessing that the pics are one speaker, are they mirror imaged?

Those mids look an awful lot like the mids on the IMFs I found (IMF also used KEF drivers, includingthe oval ones in one or two models). Those drivers in an array like that OUGHT to sound GREAT! :music: For a C-note, you 'cleaned up' this time, for sure. Congratulations! :thmbsp:

I am up again I could hardly sleep last night thinking about these. Have ti go the the pain Dr. today and do the MRI thing- then I get to come back home and explore these some more.
Guess I'll pull a woofer or two and look at the xover boards and decide on a recap plan. I am guessing these to be 35~40 years old anyway.

No- they were not MI. Given the year they were probably made that would have been unusual if they were. Had they been I would have been beyond amased!

Lions In The Arena....HELP!!!

Well I pulled the front baffle- am glad I did!! The caps are as old as Methusalau, as expected. What was not expected was to find the large low end cap to be basicly paper shreads with some grey duct tape in it!!!!

A little piece of the metal cap was at one end, the rest was shreaded. I have NO idea what value cap to replace it with. I will tear the othere cab down and MAYBE get lucky to be able to read a cap value.

The cap looked to be about an 1.125" around and maybe 6 inches long or so. Any thoughts on what I am dealing with here- a schematic sure would be great about now!!!

Thanks for any help here....BTW the tweetersw are KEF 127's!

Sorry, no help here. Just wanted to commiserate. I hope that the other is intact so you can copy it.

If O knew the xover point I could engineer in reverse, measure out the low end inductor, etc......

How is the baffle board attached? Making them mirror imaged would be over the top. it appears to be screwed on :thmbsp:
