Just picked up a pair of RSII and am in love! They are missing grills... anyone know if grills from an RSIIb will fit the RSII? They sure look close and I've located a pair across the country....the lady of the house would be a little happier. Anyone? Beuller?

no, but I'd think you could build your own with plywood frames, although getting some kind of plugs that match the mounting holes in the speakers might be tough. Also on my rs6b the the wood (assuming it's wood, but whatever) of the grille frame is bevelled carefully so when the grill is on it actually could, I would think, improve the imaging of the speaker, not make it worse like many grill mounts do. Hard to describe, easy to show you in person, but that likely won't happen (I'm a long way away). No doubt someone closer to you has infinities that you can look at to see how/if you would be able to build your own grills for them.

really wierd that you didn't get the grills wtih the speakers. I'd hit up the seller again since they HAVE to be somewhere there, even if the material's shot, who cares, get the frames, that's the tough part to build from scratch.
good luck!

oh and do your rsIIs have emims or cone mids? and what do you think of the midrange sound? also curious how much bass you get from those speakers, been dreaming about a pair for half my life now.

dkelly.... does no mean no it will NOT fit, OR no you don't know? The original grill frames are LOOOOONG gone. I may just buy the RSIIb grills just on principle and modify if I have to. My RSII have cone mids.... the RSIIa and RSIIb have emim's. I really like the mid AND bass (which is PLENTY) QUITE well... can only imagine/dream how the Emim versions sound. The more power I feed them the better.

Not sure if your a woodworker type, but I would gladly take some measurements and photos if you wanted to make your own grilles. It would be pretty simple. PM me if your interested.

I love my RSIIs as well!

Evan... that would be awesome! I will PM you.... what do you feed your RSII? I just got mine last night and hooked up my Sansui BA-5000 300wpc BEAST and it sounds awesome but got VERY hot. My fan is not going on and might need a bias set/ check up to properly handle these monsters. The Sui' is good even at 2ohm loads and ran my Polk SDA1c very nicely without getting hot enough to start the fan but I can see these require even more Umph. My Hafler Five Hundred runs it just fine and doesn't get as hot cause the fan works but I prefer the sound of my BA-5000 by a LONG shot.

I'm running my RSIIbs with Gilmore Raptor monoblocks. 500wpc into 4 ohms, massive linear power supply, run as cool as can be. Feed the Raptors from a Supratek tube preamp - heavenly sound, to be sure.

Wow... I bet it sounds heavenly. Wish I wouldn't have sold my Conrad Johnson PV-2ar tube pre but I have others and am quite partial to Sansui Definition series. I was thinking of modifying the RSII cross over to biamp using a tube amp on the mid/highs. who's done x-over mods and what advice do you have?

Hello GannonAlex,

I also have a pair of Infinity RS-II’s and absolutely love them. I’ve performed a couple of mods on them and would be happy to share some of the things I found out on the way.

Splitting the cross-over out to allow for bi-amping is relatively straight forward and was pretty easy. I found this to be very worthwhile, ‘cause it allowed for more amplification flexibility and cost about me under $20 to do. I’ve played with different horizontal and vertical bi-amp set-ups, finally landing on a vertical set-up with two identical amplifiers.

I tried running a pair of modified Dynaco MKIII’s on the top end and while it sounded very good, I couldn’t get near the volume level that I was looking for. The Dynaco’s are 60w mono blocks and I can’t see spending any more for more powerful tube amps. Right now I’m very happy with SS amplification on these.

Here’s the jist of what I did; essentially I replaced the existing binding posts and added another pair below them, then rerouted the appropriate wires to the new set of binding posts. I studied the tech-sheet before I hacked anything up and used it as a reference while performing the surgery.

Another easy fix was to reduce the amount of polly-fill in each chamber. I found that one of my speakers was way over-stuffed and had 4x the amount of polly-fill in both the upper and lower chambers than the other speaker. When replacing the polly-fill, wad up small amounts, about the size of a baseball, and count how many you put back into each chamber. I found that 45 “balls” for each chamber worked very well in my room.

Another very inexpensive, but worthwhile upgrade is to replace the screws that hold in the woofers with 10-32 machine screws and T-nuts. I have since removed the woofers many times; this simple upgrade allows them to still sit very snugly.

Feel free to PM me I’ll provide you with all the gory details.

. Use Acurus A250 200w 8 ohm 350 4 ohms
sound amazing even w/o mods:music::music::music::music:

I'm using a Yamaha MX-1. I have a pair of M-70s lounging around doing nothing and have thought about conversion, but they sound so good now, why risk it?

Thanks for all the help. I think I might hold off on the cross over mod until I get my BA-5000's fan working.... it has plenty of power and can handle 2ohm loads. The Hafler DH-500 will suffice until then as I've been running them for several days without issue... but still needing the extra Umph my BA-5000 will get them. I think I might try looking at the poly-fill and maybe the woof screws... thanks for the tip but I have to say I am pretty happy with how these sound so far. Only thing I don't like are those Damn pots.

Ok I need to replace these pots as they are a problem. The previous owner had replaced them once but whatever he used seem to be junk.... not scratchy but like the internals are internally broken. Anyone know the proper value pots to use? Maybe while I'm there I will do the caps.... any help on the caps would be appreciated as well.

technical sheet is herehttp://www.infinity-classics.de/infinity/technik/manuals/RS_II_technical_sheet.pdf

Thank you.... I wish I was better at reading schematics and could decipher what I need pot wise from that. Can anyone help with that info? I am certainly capable of installing them but not so good at determining which ones I need and where to get them from, etc. I would think the caps would be easy to determine as they are original to the speakers.... any brand cap replacements you guys can recommend and a source?
