JBL L65 Jubals with "prowler" (car subwoofwoofer?) woofers

I bet the surrounds were shot so the pirate tech sold him some junk woofers (at a profit) and took the original woofers in trade. Agreed, a travesty.

That probably sounds nowhere near as good as the original woofers but I bet it's not as bad as it looks...quite a few car subs - including most of JBL's - are just rebadged woofers. Since the Fs of a car sub driver is comparatively high, most big woofers won't mind being pressed into sub duty and vice versa.

Obviously the thing to do would be to get replacement original woofers, my point with the posting more than anything is why? And to reflect on how destructive ignorance is... :(

I hope someone from here gets them for a good price and restores them to their rightful glory.

Why? It's simple - someone who doesn't know much about speakers sees the rotten, crumbling foam and replaces the whole driver not knowing just the foam can be replaced.

When I was younger I threw out my first ever pair of speakers because of foam rot as I didn't know any better.

What are these worth without the original woofers? What would they be worth with all original drivers? Are the originals hard to come by or very expensive? I have them on my watch list as they are a 30 minute drive from me, so no shipping costs. Don't know if I need another pair of speakers now, just picked up a pair of NS1000m's few weeks ago ( $350 ), and I've never heard a pair of JBLs.

Thanks,

Kim

Kim G jump on it if they stay below 500 and you can afford them, Jubals are going for about 1500 these days and replacement woofers shouldn't be more than 300.

NS1000s for 350 is a great deal, the upside of a bad economy I guess...

The tweeters alone are worth a minimum of $350 to $500. I expect them to sell and for the buyer to have the tweeters shipped and leave the rest. Glass you can have cut locally and the L65 isn't the ultimate JBL so it may just get parted for the valuable 077s. That being said, if they were mine I'd look for a pair of 128H-1s to replace the woofers. It's an improvements over whichever woofer it came with originally (three different ones depending on L65 version) and they may still be available new, or by parting-out a pair of industrial-cabinet 4412As.

I've seen complete L65s sell for less than $800 on Epay, too, so there's a narrow window in there and local pickup can make a big difference.

Hmmmm they went for 765 a bit steep with car subs for woofers I suppose...

:dunno:

It just takes two! The reality is they could be parted out for that much, but then most wouldn't pay that much for a complete pair. I wasn't a fan of them when they were brand new. My boss had a pair when I owned my L112s and I preferred the L112 to the L65s. Like many, he paid up for the speakers and then used a simple receiver (Marantz Superscope) to power them. I loaned him my Crown D150 once to wake them up. That helped a little. Then I sold him my original year-old Amber which made him very happy...until it caught fire. :D

Starmover those 077 tweeters must be very nice indeed as the 075s in my speakers which is the older rolled off and more beamy version aren't too bad...
