Remote control options MC7106

Hello,

I just added the MC 7106 to my amplifier collection to take care of my center and surround HT channels. My big dilemma with this massive amp is that the power button is in the rear, and once I place the amp in my Salamander A/V rack I won't be able to reach the back to tun it on/off.

Can someone point out what options I might have to use a remote with this amplifier ? What other options I might have to somehow be able to switch the unit on/off without accessing the rear panel.

Cheers

There is a 12v trigger input on the back which is how I turned mine on and off via my processor. Other than that you might have to leave it on.

1. If you have a Mac pre with a 12v trigger, you're good to go.
2. Plug it into a power strip or surge suppressor with an on/off switch.

I have a Theta Pre/pro and just went through the manual to determine if it has a 12v trigger. My Theta does have the 12v trigger in the rear panel , Please pardon my lack of knowledge in this area, but can someone please point if this can be accomplished only with the McIntosh pre/pro or Theta can do the same with this amp. Below are some details from Theta's Manual :

Remote Power 1 and 2 jacks: Programmable to be individually activated/deactivated when the MAIN and/or REMOTE buttons on the front panel or remote are pressed. They can output a 12V pulse(variable duration) or 12 VDC. The output trigger can be delayed up to 255 seconds.

If Theta will work......what wires do I need to buy to make this happen.

Cheers

Looks like the Theta will work.

Is it a female mini jack? If so, all you need is one mini jack to mini jack cable. They will come in a stereo or mono version, either will work (I like the stereo one). Radio Shack sells a 6' length for a couple bucks. Pay attention when hooking it up i.e. remote out to remote in, choose your delay time (5 to 10 seconds should be fine) and enjoy.

Thanks. I checked with McIntosh Tech support and per Ron C I will also need to lower the voltage from 12 to 5. I might end getting a power conditioner to turn this unit on/off as I am not sure what is needed to lower voltage.

Thanks for your guidance onemug.
