Question concerning level converters.

Hello,

I am thinking about integrating pro amps into my home theater. In going from consumer level to pro audio level I am consuidering one of these.

The Samson S Convert states that you can send audio both ways. Has both RCA inputs to XLR outputs and vice versa. Fine... My question is can I use this to send 4 channels of audio with RCA inputs and XLR outputs across the board (Effectively reversing the IO of 1/2 of the unit.) or would I need to buy 2 units? For example, I want to send left and right to one amp, a center channel to another, and a sub out to a bridged amplifier.

I have been reading up on this unit as well as the Cleanbox and what I want to do is not clear. Is it possible?

Thank you.

I didn't look up the specifics, but generally that type of device is 2-ch. So, if you had 5 channels you wanted to shift, you'd need three boxes.

The kicker is, unless you're mixing and matching stuff with vastly different gain levels, this sort of converter is seldom necessary.

The difference between "consumer level" and "pro level" is usually in regard to the fixed levels between say a tape out and a record input, not the variable level between a preamp out and a power amp input.

I agree, level converters are seldom necessary. If you need to change connector formats (e.g., RCA-XLR), try it with inexpensive adapters first, before investing in a level converter.
