Hi me again, I just thought does everyone have all their Must Own LP's already? I sure don't, not even close. There is so many, isn't there, that you should just have like at LEAST 1 zappa 1 miles davis 1 beatles 1 pink floyd 1 jimi hendrix 1..................and so on  So what do you do once you have all the Must Own's? (eljr) or are you still collecting your must have classics that should be in most peoples record collections? The 1001 albums you should hear/own befor you die is a great place to start, my reference book to the must owns:D and of course you guys  appreciate it...

Humble Pie - Smokin'
Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die
Traffic - Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys
Joe Jackson - Night And Day
Pretenders - s/t

Go buy them and don't start a thread. :D

To me, a must have collection would include something by Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Big Joe Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Les Paul, and Willie Dixon. What these artists did transformed music and inspired other artists to move into Rock & Roll. Songs written by Willie Dixon and John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters became rock hits later. (sometimes without proper attribution). Of course, Les Paul's contribution to Rock music is immeasurable. I have something by all of these artists on CD, but have not yet found any vinyl by them.

Regards,

D-Ray

What about Traffic - Traffic self titled album?

Daza.

Absolutely. Grab any Traffic you can find. This album features Dave Mason. A founding member who went solo shortly thereafter. And before you start another thread, get Dave Mason's Alone Together. His first solo album after leaving Traffic. Don't ask any questions, just do it.

that's kinda like saying have you eaten in all the best restaurants or dated all the women you want.
For me and you both, there is always more records you haven't heard than heard, so a must have list can change with the next tune you hear.

so I'll say no, I'm greedy when it comes to music...just can't get enough.

Yep. And its also getting to the point where you need multiple variations of the same record- mono/stereo, US/UK, Spector/No Spector, etc

The road goes on...:scratch2:

I discover new ones. :smoke:

It's pretty much never ending.

There is as much from the past that I missed or did not appreciate at the time as there is new stuff.

Yeah, it's never ending.

Good one:D I bought American Beauty the other week  A must have.

Daza.

So is Workingman's Dead.

I have been considering taking a year and just listening to the Dead.

Two problems with this that I can't quite workout, a year I am sure would not be enough time to listen to everything I want to listen to by them and how the heck will I "catch up" on all other music after a year?

Oh, and stay away from the Grateful Dead. It's all out-of-tune drivel. And when they were in tune it's still just drivel. ;)
That ought to get eljr's attention.

Jeeze, ya gotta work one Saturday in your life and ya get all confrontational!

Missed ya at SMAC yesterday!

I don't really have a "must have" list. I do seek out better copies of my favorite records. If there is a group I like I try to get most if not all records by them.
