sony TA-N611

This Sony power amp has my curiosity. From what little I can find it was matched up to a Sony Ta-E611 pre-amp. Besides being connected through normal RCA plugs there was a proprietary cable between the two.
Is this amp worthless without the matching pre-amp and cable?
