Honky Tonk Hero
Local thrift store had two Sony CDP-701ES CD players. I bought them both. I think my thrift store tendancies are becoming a probelm, but I thought I'd share with y'all who probably have a much better idea what these are....
Fantastically built -- they weigh 25.5 pounds EACH and are completely covered in 4mm+ thick solid sheets of anodized aluminum. inside reveals caps that are bigger than many of my amps. The controls and the feel are unlike anything I have felt. They are nearly in perfect cosmetic and functional condition as well (with the help of my friend mr. acetone on the tops).
I saw this info about them: http://www.thevintageknob.org/DAD/C...S/CDP701ES.html
So, these have build dates from 1984 -- are these still considered hi-quality equipement even by today's standards? What made these unit worth $1500 retail, and hwat technlogy has improved since? Just curious if I found something interesting or not. Love to hear your comments eitherway.
Thanks.
