Cambridge Audio 650C vs DACMagic

I'm about one month away (birthday) from ownership of a new CA 650C. Does this unit have the same DAC technology as the DACMagic? Does anybody have experience with the 650C, positive or negative, that you could share? Thanks.

Im curious about the same thing, is the Dacmagic dac the same as the 650c dac? The CA website says the 650c dac is 24bit/192khz capable. Was does that mean? Is it the same dac or not?

It is the same dac but I don't think the implementation is the same. CA doesn't mention their Adaptive Time Filtering (ATF™) asynchronous upsampling technology which converts 16-24 bit audio (at any standard sampling frequency between 32-96kHz) to 24 bit/192kHz (which is in the DacMagic) until the 740C. The 650C summary page makes no mention of the ATF technology and CA's website says that the DAC is 24bit/192kHz capable.

The 740c goes one step further that it upsamples to 24bit/348kHz while the DacMagic does 24bit/192kHz.

Most of the reviews I have read say that the DM is derived from the 740/840 line of CD players.

Cambridge 650c

24bit/192khz capable? Does the dac in the 650 output at 24bit/192khz or not? Saying it's capable has no meaning to me. Either it does or it doesn't. If the 650c doesn't really work at 24/192khz then I'd be better off buying the DacMagic and using my old Denon DVD2910 as a transport.

Why not Contact Cambridge and ask? Sometimes going straight to the source is the fastest way to get the information you need. Just a suggestion.

That's what I was wanting to know. Cambridge saying the 650c is 24/192 capable is misleading in my opinion. Thanks for the info.
