Hi and thanks in advance for your help:
I won a Technics SL-1650 for like $30 at a local auction a several years ago, knowing that all the spindles (including the single play) were gone. I didn't do my research first, thinking the parts would be easy to find - honestly, I had no clue that I was buying a relatively desirable piece of equipment until I discovered how hard the 33 and 45 changer spindles are to find (and how much they cost). Anyway, because I wanted to find out if it worked right away, I got impatient and stuck a super glue cap on it as a makeshift spindle (don't worry, the glue was dry). It happened to be just the right size and I've been using it with no problem ever since.
My question is this: I finally broke down a few minutes ago & bought a single play spindle on eBay for $20, which I can live with - but now I'm wondering if there's anything extra I'll need to do to install it? Or can I just stick it on there and stop feeling like a bumpkin every time someone sees what I did? I guess another question is... am I harming it in some way with my makeshift replacement? It just fits over the little nub and comes right off.
Oh, and out of curiosity - do the spindles store on top of the speed knobs at the front left? I cant figure out where on earth they'd go (if by some chance I ever find some I can afford). I don't need them & won't use them because I'm paranoid about the condition of my vinyl, but I'd love to have them so it's complete.
Thanks!
