Just some Nichicon caps for stock, the orange axials are EPCOS 220μF 63v (C110 on the Yamaha P2200/01)) Ok gentlemen I could really use some help here, finally getting back to my project. I tried powering up this module under repair and was getting a positive DC voltage on the output that...

If You Have a Turntable You Should Have a Record Clamp

I agree. I am from the clamp=yes, weight=no, camp. If your TT came with a weight from the manufacturer then ok but the idea of adding weight to the bearing load bothers me.

Normal for diodes to be really hot?

I’d be replacing those electrolytics The one just to the right looks like it spilled it’s guts Electrolytics hate heat, that electrolytic might be a near dead short causing you some issues which may be contributing to the hotter than normal diode which in turn is destroying capacitor(s) etc etc

    Best analogy for hi-fi collecting?

When i was young there was a lot of gear that i lusted after but just couldn’t afford, near 40 years later i can now afford some of the gear i used to lust after, but the gear and myself are now vintage. Not sure how to categorize that, but its where my head is at.

Do you know what I loved about radio?

No tinfoil in my hat but im just too old to have a microphone turned on listening to everything I say, gives me the damn creeps. In the early 80’s i wrote a short story about the government convincing people to allow a tracking device in every newly born baby in case the baby got lost or...

Do you know what I loved about radio?

Back in the day I used to turn on a radio in several rooms in my house and have the same music playing throughout my home, including the garage and sometimes my vehicle on the driveway, with zero latency, just a house full of music without having to turn one source up really loud to be heard...

If you were sent to HiFi hell and granted one album to take which one would you choose and why?

Anything pressed after 1990 because the “record players” in hell probably suck and I’d hate to ruin a good record. Hey weird Al... I’m looking directly at you...

    Whats your favorite quote?

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” - Hunter S. Thompson

Ultrasonic cleaning of pots and switches??

Hmmmm... I have an ultrasonic tank. Think I’ll try some experiments next week and see what happens. After cleaning, assuming they survive, a little heat to dry, maybe wd-40 first... Then maybe fader lube after the cleaning... Hmmm definitely worth some experimentation to see what happens

A little tired of maintaining vintage Kenwood L-07 mono amps

Just a thought... perhaps they have reworked them so many times that pads and traces are peeling off boards. I would really consider trying to find someone else, a specialist rather than a generalist.

7 kappas and Dukane Two Fifty Mono Amps.

I used to service those Dukane 250’s for an alarm company, they were commonly used as a P.A. in high rise buildings as part of the fire alarm communication system. I have one in the basement somewhere that I used to use to drive a subwoofer. Those things are friggin tanks.

    What’s the polarity Kenneth

LOL, It’s just a coupling capacitor, probably never going to see enough reverse DC to cause a bang, and besides I don’t need that kind of excitement in my life.

Tube or solid state amp for classic rock & vinyl?

Agreed. My Yamaha amplifiers and JBL speakers take me back to my teens.
