It's early serial number.

Veneer on top with uncoloured spot and with few shallow scratches, but I thing that it is no problem for me. I will sand it and put new oil and beeswax. Grill cloth fabric will be replaced.

all drivers looks better than I supposed and they just need to be wiped off the dust.

Now I connect it and try to compare with my M70

Interesting. B&O never got much credit for their early speakers, but these look well made. Woofer is almost definitely a Philips (possibly AD10100), which is consistent with later B&O speakers, but I don't recognize the midrange and tweeter.

While you're refurbishing them, you'll probably want to recap as well.

Very nice Martynka, i'm sure you will get those cabinets looking beautiful like your M-70's. Will be an interesting sound comparison with the M-70's also.

My slightly older 5700's use the Philips AD-1056, l am guessing yours will be the AD-10100's.

Thanks @Oldsansui441 , You know that I bought it because of you and @twiiii :)

I opened it and inside I have :

- few beautiful tropical fishes

- pair of Celestion HF2000 and MF500

- and one Philips AD1056 with alnico magnet (AD10100 was thinner ceramic)

and passive radiator KEF BD139 on bottom.

Sorry if we may have influenced you into buying more speakers :D. Thanks for the photos, that is interesting & l was incorrect, l thought that they may have changed the woofers by the time the 5702's had been released. Your Philips woofers only have a small amount of white powdery substance on them, mine had quite a lot.

But... if you look on BeO product calendar, 5702 was first, before 5700 :)

Beovox 5700 Types: 6229 (1972 - April 1974); 6253 (1972 - June 1975)
Beovox 5702 Types: 6257 (1971 - Jan 1975); GB 6251 (1971 - Oct 1973)

Unknown.jpeg The 5700 series we sold in the USA the mid dome and tweeter were in the center side by side with the woofer and round passive radiator flanking the tweeter and the mid DOME. When everyone thought the Mac ML-1, The AR3a and the Bose 901's along with that thing that had the coorigated tweeter were the ultimate, the B&O 5700 easily won all the side by side comparisons. Thats why I chose Celestion tweeters to supplement by Concert Grands. 4 for each speaker in a short line array. Thats when I started tri-amping. One amp for the woofers, one for the mid/tweeter combination using Bozak's passive crossover, and one for the super tweeters using an UREI electronic crossovers. The 5700 speakers were smoother in the highs the lower highs mid and mid bass were fantastic. Only the lows below 40 Hz might seem suspect, but the over all sound was great. It did matter if you used B&O's under power receivers or Big Mac, marantz, or Sansui power amps the sound was easy to listen to whether in a smaller or larger room. It. wasn't until I heard the Snell A7 illusion that I thought I had heard a better point source speaker system. I guess for over 100 times the price the Snells should have been.

Yes, 5700 had Philips woofer on top and the same 10" round ABR on bottom.

I have theory why BeO produced in the same time two almost the same speaker only with different passive driver. In UK loudspeakers with 12" or bigger driver were considered for professional use and were cheaper because less tax. Beovox 5700 had 10" driver and were for home use, Beovox 5702 had 10" woofer but passve driver KEF BD139 had 12"x8,25" and for tax was proffesional speaker.

Very nice speakers and photos, thanks for sharing. I’m wondering why the woofers have intact dust caps, the few I’ve seen were foam that has now rotted away. My set of 12” Philips woofers seem to have suffered the same fate.

I know, it's strange but it look like it is dust cap from foam, seems original. When I touch it, it is still elastic. I will check it one more time when I back home evening.

Very interesting as the other Beovox's from these two series don't seem to follow this overlap, ie 1700/1702 and their larger siblings. What you say about 5700/5702's and the UK does make sense, l have also heard about their tax at that time, l believe that is why they got the Beovox 3800's and other markets didn't.

Because of work I don't have a time for wooden work till weekend, but I started renovation of grill.

Old grill fabric cloth smells like old home, not like grandma home but some abandoned place. Visually for me not good too.

I took out fabric from wooden masks and prepared new acoustic cloth.

The wooden mask in place of the woofer and ABR has a cross. I think the old non-elastic material supported him. And here's the question, doesn't it disturb the sound ??

Maybe that's why the mask is on magnetic clips so that it can be easily removed for listening.

With the grills off they just look menacing. Mean even. In the picture of the crossover the leads on the electrolytic caps look corroded.

Those woofer dust caps look factory to me. Tubed's photo of the 5700 (apparently later manufacture) shows that these may have had foam caps which are now gone, so perhaps early versions of this woofer had fabric caps. I suspect woofer properties vary slightly depending on the cap used. Would be great to have answers but maybe not after all this time.

Regarding the grill, I doubt the bracing has much effect at low frequencies but I'd definitely listen with it off whenever possible. Of course it will provide additional protection for the drivers which seems to have paid off. Brilliant that they had the foresight (or engineering discretion) to include magnetic clips!

@A400, it is very interesting what you say about dust cap.

I took grill to my hands and....

Now I am going to garage to sanding and paint it to black mat.
