Today's INDIE Playlist

Well, I kind of get lost around here. What to post in is a question perpetually on my mind. So, I have decided to start this thread. This is not meant to discriminate against any other type of music. Rather it is for those who seek somewhere to put modern music on the page so to say. By "modern" I refer to musicians who aren't popular artists necessarily. More underground. Whether that is underground hip hop, some twee band, shoegaze, ambient, krautrock, electronic we welcome all. So lets hear it for new bands and cutting edge music. I will start with: Grizzly Bear- Horn of Plenty.

How indie is 'indie'. Do The Decemberists count? Arcade Fire? The Thermals? Belle & Sebastian?

Or do you have to be *really* obscure like Chicken Starship?

If we are going to group all indie artists together, I don't see much point in trying to have a single thread about it. Especially with artists at the level of those mentioned above. You might as well just have a link to CMJ or something. Then again, I think all these music threads should be 1000% more specific, eg. "Albums that sound kind of like You Think You Really Know Me, so what do I know, eh? On the other hand, I guess we could have a thread for self-released records of which under 500 exist, i.e. not Grizzly Bear, but I'd rather see those obscurities come up in threads appropriate for their sound. :indie nerd ceases grumpy rant:

How about older Indie?

The Clean: "Anthology." A 2-disc compilation of one of the greatest overlooked indie bands of all time. If I was Kanye West I'd have to walk up to Pavement and say "I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish..but The Clean was the greatest band that sounded like they didn't give a crap..of all time."

I wish there was a laughing emoticon. Like I said John, post anything that isn't too mainstream. I kind if want this to be a place for more "forward" looking people to post what they are currently listening to.

I came back. I guess "cutting edge" was really your point huh? How about my record label bookmarks with the retro- and reissue-focused ones removed?

P.S. don't forget to check out the distro sections of the above sites for mini labels/imprints/self-releases/etc.
P.P.S. All of these are U.S. labels because they are actually my bookmarks, and they are bookmarked for the purpose of ordering things. I like other countries, too :)
